Flag, Filter, and Sync Stocks Across Portfolios and Screens

Flag, Filter, and Sync Stocks Across Portfolios and Screens

Color Flags are now live across both Portfolios and the Screener, giving you a faster way to flag stocks, filter lists, and organize your trading ideas across two of the most powerful tools on Finviz.

Flag & Filter Stocks in Every Portfolio

All Finviz Portfolios now support Color Flags, giving you a faster way to categorize tickers and filter your holdings by one color or multiple colors at once.

To get started, open your Portfolio and hover over the far-left edge of any ticker to assign a Color Flag. From there, you can organize your holdings around the workflow that works best for you.

Check it out:

Every stock added to your Portfolio can now be assigned one of six Flag colors:

  • Red
  • Green
  • Orange
  • Yellow
  • Blue
  • Purple

Flags can be changed at any time and filtered using the new Flag dropdown menu. This makes it easier to organize positions, watchlists, strategies, and research ideas especially in Portfolios containing 25 or more stocks and ETFs.

Once you have assigned Flags to stocks in your Portfolio, select the Flag dropdown at the top-right of the Portfolio to filter by one color or any combination of colors. In this screenshot, we've filtered our Portfolio to just stocks that have a red flag:

Flag Stocks and Screen Them

Any Flag you apply in a Portfolio now appears in the Screener, and any Flag you apply in the Screener appears in your Portfolios. This gives you a consistent system for tracking stocks across both tools. Here's a three step process to demonstrate how that would work:

Step 1: Screen for stocks using the Finviz Screener.
Step 2: Flag different tickers based on your own criteria.
Step 3: Add selected tickers to a Portfolio.

The result: Those tickers will automatically appear with the same Flags inside your Finviz Portfolio. It also works in reverse. Flag a ticker in your Portfolio, run a screen, and when that ticker appears in the results, you will immediately see its Flag.

This makes every screen more informative by showing which stocks you have already reviewed, which are part of your existing workflow, and how you previously categorized them.

Use Flagged Lists as Your Screener Starting Point

You can also begin with a group of stocks you have already flagged and use that list as the starting universe for your next screen.

For example, you might create a Flagged list containing top-performing stocks from several major indexes. You can then open that Flag group in the Screener and:

  • Apply additional filters
  • Re-sort the results
  • Add technical or fundamental signals
  • Narrow the list to stocks matching a specific trading setup
  • Identify the strongest opportunities under current market conditions

The workflow becomes:

Build a preferred universe → Screen that universe → Apply current signals → Find the best opportunities right now

Instead of searching the entire market every time, you can focus on stocks you already follow, understand, or prefer to trade. In the screenshot below, we opened our Screener and sorted all stocks by largest market cap. The same flags from our Portfolio appear here to remind us which stocks have been added and flagged:

Filter Screener Results by Flags

Scan hundreds of stocks, Flag the tickers that matter, and then instantly narrow the entire Screener to only those names that you've flagged. This allows you to work across different Screens while always keeping a set list of stocks flagged a specific color.

Less noise. Cleaner lists. Faster follow-through.

To get started, open your Screener results and use the Flag control near the top-left corner of the results table. From there, select the Flag color or combination of colors that you want to use. In this screenshot, we have all Flag colors selected:

What Makes Finviz Color Flags Different

Many platforms treat Flags as a simple labeling system. Finviz takes them further by making them an active part of the screening and discovery process including seamless interconnectivity with your Portfolio. Here are two capabilities make the Finviz workflow especially powerful.

1. Screen Multiple Flag Groups at the Same Time

Finviz allows you to combine multiple Flag groups inside the Screener. For example, you can select both Red and Blue Flagged stocks and screen them together as one ticker universe.

This means you do not need to open each Flag list separately and repeatedly apply the same filters, signals, or sorting rules. You can combine multiple preferred groups, analyze them at once, and move through your workflow faster.

This is a major advantage over platforms such as TradingView, which do not currently allow users to combine multiple Flag lists as a single Screener universe.

2. Discover New Stocks With the Unflagged Option

Finviz also allows you to screen specifically for Unflagged tickers. When you repeatedly use similar trading signals, your Screener results may include many stocks you have already identified, reviewed, or categorized.

Selecting Unflagged removes those familiar names and shows only stocks that match your criteria but have not yet been added to any of your Flag groups.

This helps you:

  • Discover genuinely new opportunities
  • Expand your existing trading universe
  • Avoid repeatedly reviewing the same stocks
  • Separate fresh ideas from previously analyzed names
  • Continuously build and improve your watchlists

No other platform currently offers the ability to screen specifically for unflagged tickers. You can see here we've only selected Unflagged:

Build a Flag System That Works for You

Because Color Flags work across both Portfolios and the Screener, you can use them to create your own custom stock-classification system. The choice is entirley yours and here's a system we've thought of as inspiration:

  • Blue flags: Long-term holdings
  • Yellow flags: Active trade ideas
  • Green flags: High-conviction names
  • Red flags: Risk concerns
  • Orange flags: Earnings or event-driven setups
  • Purple flags: Stocks requiring additional research

Again, the categories are entirely up to you.

We are excited to see how Finviz members use these new features throughout their Portfolios and Screener workflows.

Much more to come.
