The Week Ahead: Big Bank Earnings, Inflation Data

Next week is jampacked with potential market movers, including midweek inflation data and a host of other economic indicators. Several Federal Reserve speeches are also on the docket, as well as the start of the first earnings season for 2026.

Reports from several big bank names are expected, including Bank of America (BAC), Citigroup (C), Goldman Sachs (GS), JPMorgan Chase (JPM), Morgan Stanley (MS), PNC (PNC), and Wells Fargo (WFC). Delta Air Lines (DAL) is also scheduled to report before the open on Tuesday. 

Below is the schedule of key market events for the week ahead. All economic dates are tentative and subject to change.

There is no economic data scheduled for Monday, Jan. 12, but speeches from Richmond Fed President Tom Barkin and Atlanta Fed President Raphael Bostic are expected.

Consumer price index (CPI) data and core CPI data is scheduled for Tuesday, Jan. 13, along with new home sales and the U.S. budget deficit. NFIB optimism index data and speeches from St. Louis Fed President Alberto Musalem and Richmond's Barkin are also due.

On Wednesday, Jan. 14, producer price index (PPI) and core PPI data is due out, as well as retail sales, existing home sales, business inventories, and the Federal Reserve’s Beige Book. More speeches are on deck, including from New York Fed President John Williams and Minneapolis Fed President Neel Kashkari.

Thursday, Jan. 15, features regularly scheduled jobs data, U.S. import prices, the Empire state manufacturing survey, and the Philadelphia Fed's manufacturing survey. Barkin will make his third speech for the week.

Friday, Jan. 16, will be slower, with only industrial production data on tap.
