The Week Ahead: Employment Data, Fed Speeches

The first full week of May will bring a slew of employment data. Plenty of Fed officials have speeches coming up as well.

Earnings season is also well underway, with reports to come from Advanced Micro Devices (AMD), Affirm (AFRM), AppLovin (APP), BioNTech (BNTX), Cloudflare (NET), CVS Health (CVS), Datadog (D DOG), DraftKings (DKNG), DoorDash (DASH), Lyft (LYFT), Marriott (MAR), McDonald's (MCD), Palantir Technologies (PLTR), PayPal (PYPL), Pinterest (PINS), Pfizer (PFE), Shopify (SHOP), Super Micro Computer (SMCI), Tapestry (TPR), Tyson Foods (TSN), Uber (UBER), and Zillow Group (ZG).

Below is the schedule of key market events for the week ahead. All economic dates are tentative and subject to change.

Monday, May 4 will bring a speech from New York Fed President John Williams.

The U.S. trade balance is due out Tuesday, April 28, alongside job openings, new home sales, and the ISM services purchasing managers' index (PMI). 

The ADP employment report is scheduled for Wednesday, April 29. Chicago Fed President Austan Goolsbee will give a speech as well. 

Thursday, April 30, features weekly jobless claims, construction spending, consumer credit data. Plus, New York Fed President John Williams will deliver remarks.

The U.S. employment report, hourly wages, and wholesale inventories are slated for Friday, May 1, in addition to preliminary consumer credit data. Plus, Chicago Fed President Goolsbee, San Francisco Fed President Mary Daly, Fed governor Michelle Bowman, and Fed governor Christopher Waller will all speak on a panel.
