Toyota (NYSE:TM) is recalling more than 508,000 vehicles in the United States because of an instrument cluster display problem that could prevent drivers from receiving important safety information.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration said on Tuesday that the recall covers 508,354 vehicles, including certain 2025 and 2026 Camry Hybrid models.
Display failure could affect vehicle safety systems
According to the NHTSA, the instrument cluster display may fail when an affected vehicle is started.
The fault could result in several safety-related functions becoming inactive, including the hazard lights, turn signals, seat belt warning system and smart key reminder.
The regulator said the issue could increase the risk of a crash or injury because drivers may not receive critical information or have access to certain warning functions.
Toyota dealers to provide free software update
Toyota plans to address the problem through a software update to the instrument cluster display.
Owners of affected vehicles will be able to have the update performed by dealers free of charge, according to the NHTSA.
The recall adds more than half a million U.S. vehicles to Toyota’s service requirements, with the software-based remedy intended to restore the affected display and safety functions.
