AST SpaceMobile (NASDAQ:ASTS) shares fell 2.8% to $66.82 in pre-market trading after the satellite communications company reported second-quarter 2026 results that missed Wall Street expectations on both revenue and adjusted earnings.
The decline extended losses that began after the results were released on the evening of August 10, putting renewed attention on execution and profitability as AST SpaceMobile continues building out its space-based cellular broadband network.
Revenue falls short as quarterly loss widens
AST SpaceMobile reported second-quarter revenue of $31.5 million, below the consensus forecast of $35.18 million.
The adjusted loss per share was $0.77, significantly wider than the $0.26 loss analysts had expected.
Quarterly results were also affected by a $125.9 million loss on involuntary conversion related to the BB7 launch incident, contributing to the larger-than-anticipated loss.
The latest report follows five consecutive quarterly misses, adding to investor scrutiny over the company’s ability to meet financial expectations while executing its capital-intensive network deployment strategy.
Convertible notes add dilution concerns
Another factor weighing on sentiment is AST SpaceMobile’s recent financing.
The company raised $1.15 billion in gross proceeds through an offering of new 1.625% convertible senior notes in July 2026. Management characterised the financing terms as cost-efficient, but the convertible structure has raised concerns among investors about potential future dilution.
Those concerns are particularly relevant given the stock’s recent volatility. At its pre-market price of $66.82, ASTS remains substantially below its 52-week high of $133.86.
AST SpaceMobile maintains 2026 revenue guidance
Despite the weaker-than-expected quarter, AST SpaceMobile maintained its full-year 2026 revenue forecast of $150 million to $200 million.
The company also reported a pro forma liquidity position of more than $3.7 billion as of June 30, providing substantial capital as it continues funding its network development and broader operations.
Maintaining the revenue outlook offers a counterpoint to the quarterly miss, with future results likely to be measured against whether AST SpaceMobile can deliver within that full-year range.
Why ASTS stock is under pressure
The broader U.S. market provided little explanation for the move, with the S&P 500, Dow Jones and Nasdaq all fractionally lower in pre-market trading. That suggests the pressure on ASTS is primarily linked to company-specific developments.
Investors entered the results with elevated expectations and options markets anticipating a double-digit move. The combination of weaker-than-forecast revenue, a substantially wider adjusted loss and potential dilution from the convertible notes has reinforced concerns around execution.
Against those pressures, AST SpaceMobile’s unchanged 2026 revenue guidance and more than $3.7 billion pro forma liquidity position provide important offsets. Attention now shifts to whether upcoming quarters can demonstrate stronger revenue delivery and narrow the gap between the company’s operating progress and Wall Street’s financial expectations.
