Nebius and Vantage Plan Nvidia-Powered AI Infrastructure Deployment in South Wales

By Fiona Craig | August 13, 2026, 9:37 AM

Vantage Data Centers (AMEX:VNTG) and Nebius (NASDAQ:NBIS) have agreed to deploy Nvidia-powered artificial intelligence infrastructure at Vantage’s CWL1 data centre campus in Newport, Wales, expanding the region’s role in the UK’s growing AI infrastructure market. The agreement represents the first announced commercial capacity commitment within the South Wales AI Growth Zone.

Nebius secures capacity at Vantage’s Newport campus

Under the agreement, Nebius will lease high-density data centre capacity at the CWL1 campus to support a broad range of artificial intelligence workloads.

The infrastructure is intended for AI training and inference as well as agentic AI and enterprise applications, with capacity expected to serve businesses, researchers, startups and public-sector organisations.

The project brings together Nebius’ AI infrastructure platform with Vantage’s established data centre operations as demand for high-performance computing capacity continues to increase.

Deployment forms part of Nebius’ UK expansion

The Newport project represents another step in Nebius’ broader investment programme across the UK.

In June, the company announced approximately £1.7 billion of committed capacity development spanning four UK locations.

The infrastructure is being developed using Nvidia’s DSX AI factory reference design, providing a framework designed specifically for large-scale accelerated computing and artificial intelligence workloads.

The South Wales deployment will therefore contribute to Nebius’ efforts to establish a wider network of AI computing infrastructure across the country.

CWL1 ranks among Europe’s largest data centre campuses

Vantage’s CWL1 campus has operated in Newport since 2010 and has developed into one of Europe’s largest data centre campuses.

The electricity consumed by the site is matched with 100% certified renewable energy, while newer facilities at the campus incorporate closed-loop cooling technology.

That system is designed to minimise operational water consumption, an increasingly important consideration as operators expand high-density computing infrastructure to support AI applications.

The existing scale of CWL1 also provides an established platform from which additional AI-focused capacity can be deployed.

Vantage targets more than 1 GW across South Wales

The agreement with Nebius forms part of a much larger expansion strategy for Vantage Data Centers (AMEX:VNTG) in the region.

Vantage is targeting more than 1 gigawatt of AI-ready capacity across sites in Newport, Bridgend and Bro Tathan.

If delivered, the programme would establish South Wales as a significant hub for the large-scale computing infrastructure required by artificial intelligence developers and enterprise customers.

Rising demand for AI training and inference has increased the need for data centres capable of supporting high-density computing equipment, creating opportunities for operators with access to sufficient electricity, connectivity and land.

South Wales strengthens position as UK AI hub

South Wales has been designated as a UK AI Growth Zone, reflecting several infrastructure advantages considered important for the development of artificial intelligence capacity.

The region benefits from a concentration of existing digital infrastructure, fibre connectivity with London and access to a high-capacity electricity grid.

Its established industrial base provides another advantage as investment in data centres and advanced computing expands.

South Wales is also home to what is described as the UK’s largest concentration of semiconductor businesses, potentially creating additional links between AI computing infrastructure and the country’s advanced technology supply chain.

AI infrastructure investment gathers pace

The agreement between Nebius and Vantage highlights the increasing scale of investment required to support the expansion of artificial intelligence.

For Nebius (NASDAQ:NBIS), the CWL1 deployment adds another location to its growing UK footprint and provides capacity for customers ranging from startups and researchers to large enterprises and public-sector organisations.

For Vantage Data Centers (AMEX:VNTG), the partnership supports its ambition to develop more than 1 gigawatt of AI-ready infrastructure across South Wales.

The Newport deployment also gives the South Wales AI Growth Zone its first announced commercial capacity commitment, providing an early indication of how the region could develop as a major UK centre for AI computing.
