Eli Lilly Launches Foundayo Weight-Loss Pill in UK

By Fiona Craig | August 24, 2026, 7:13 AM

Eli Lilly (NYSE:LLY) has launched its oral weight-management and type 2 diabetes treatment Foundayo in the UK, making Britain the first European market where the drug is commercially available, the company said on Monday.

Foundayo, chemically known as orforglipron, will initially be available through private prescriptions after receiving authorisation from the UK’s medicines regulator on August 10.

The launch makes Foundayo the second GLP-1 tablet to enter the British market, following Novo Nordisk’s (CSE:NOVO-B) Wegovy pill.

NHS Access Awaits NICE Assessment

While private patients can now obtain Foundayo, wider availability through the National Health Service will depend on an assessment by the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence.

NICE must evaluate the treatment before determining whether it should be made available through the publicly funded healthcare system. Lilly said it is working with the agency as it assesses Foundayo for weight-management use.

In the meantime, patients seeking the treatment can access it through private healthcare providers.

Foundayo Priced Below Mounjaro Injection

Eli Lilly said Foundayo will cost between £100 and £120 ($136 to $164), positioning the oral treatment substantially below the price of its injectable weight-loss drug Mounjaro.

A month’s supply of Mounjaro is priced at around £330, according to the company, potentially giving Foundayo an affordability advantage for patients who prefer an oral treatment or are paying privately.

Competition in the UK oral GLP-1 market is already developing. Private providers currently offer Novo Nordisk’s Wegovy weight-loss pill at prices ranging from approximately £74 to £129 per month for lower introductory doses.

Many of those starting prices are connected to multi-month subscription programmes, with costs typically increasing as patients progress to higher doses.

European Regulatory Decisions Remain Pending

Foundayo remains under regulatory review in the European Union, meaning the UK is currently the first European country where the treatment has reached patients.

Novo Nordisk’s Wegovy pill is further advanced in the EU regulatory process, having already received a positive recommendation from the European Medicines Agency. A final decision from the European Commission is still awaited.

The UK launch expands Eli Lilly’s presence in the rapidly growing weight-management market and gives NYSE:LLY another product alongside Mounjaro as competition intensifies between pharmaceutical companies developing GLP-1 treatments in both injectable and oral formats.
