Opus Genetics shares rise 5.9% ahead of OPGx-BEST1 trial data

By Fiona Craig | September 01, 2026, 8:59 AM

Opus Genetics Inc (NASDAQ:IRD) shares rose 5.9% in pre-market trading ahead of the scheduled release of three-month topline data from Cohort 1 of its OPGx-BEST1 Phase 1/2 clinical trial.

The September 1, 2026 data release concerns OPGx-BEST1, a gene replacement therapy being evaluated in patients with Best Vitelliform Macular Dystrophy and Autosomal-Recessive Bestrophinopathy, two inherited retinal diseases.

The clinical update has previously been identified by analysts covering Opus Genetics as an important development for the programme. The outcome of the trial remains uncertain pending publication of the results.

Analysts focus on OPGx-BEST1 clinical programme

BTIG and B. Riley currently have “Buy” ratings on Opus Genetics with price targets of $12 and $10, respectively, according to the supplied information.

Cantor Fitzgerald has also reiterated a “Buy” rating on the stock. The analysts have identified the OPGx-BEST1 data as an important potential milestone for the company.

Analyst ratings and price targets represent the respective firms’ assessments and do not indicate either the outcome of the clinical trial or future share-price performance.

Opus Genetics advances OPGx-LCA5 programme

Elsewhere in its clinical pipeline, Opus Genetics completed enrolment in its registrational Phase 3 trial of OPGx-LCA5 in early August.

The programme represents another gene therapy candidate being advanced by the clinical-stage company alongside OPGx-BEST1.

Progress across the programmes remains subject to clinical trial results and applicable regulatory processes.

Shares advance as broader U.S. markets decline

Opus Genetics’ pre-market increase came as the major U.S. equity indices traded lower amid renewed geopolitical tensions between the United States and Iran, higher oil prices and changing expectations for Federal Reserve monetary policy.

The S&P 500, Dow Jones and Nasdaq were all indicated lower ahead of the opening bell.

While the timing of the share-price increase coincides with the scheduled OPGx-BEST1 clinical update, the information provided does not establish the extent to which positioning ahead of the data release caused Tuesday’s 5.9% move.

Attention remains focused on the three-month Cohort 1 results as investors await further information on the safety and clinical performance of the OPGx-BEST1 programme.
