FuelCell Stock Shut Down by Top-Line Whiff

By Patrick Martin | September 02, 2026, 9:00 AM

FuelCell Energy Inc (NASDAQ:FCEL) stock is set to be one of the worst-performers on Wall Street today, down 13.3% in electronic trading. The alternative energy provider reported adjusted fiscal third-quarter loss of 64 cents per share on $33 million in revenue, both of which fell short of expectations.

The company also incurred a $17 million Fit Energy inventory charge, though it did announce its first major data center power and capacity-reservation agreements. FuelCell's whiff has put clean energy peers Bloom Energy (BE) and Sunrun (RUN) in the red this morning.

FCEL is looking at a fourth-straight loss. Prior to today's open, the shares were up 133% in 2026 and had support at their 126-day moving average that is poised to be breached. On June 30, the stock hit a two-year high of $37.88. Keep an eye on the equity's 14-Day Relative Strength Index, last seen at 33 and on the cusp of "oversold" territory.

So far there have been no analyst adjustments, but FCEL's consensus 12-month price target does sit at $22.83, a 51.3% premium to last night's close at $17.08.

Options traders have been all in on calls. At the International Securities Exchange (ISE), Chicago Board Options Exchange (CBOE), and NASDAQ OMX PHLX (PHLX), traders have bought to open 12,336 calls in the past two weeks, compared to 4,324 puts.
