Nvidia Agrees to Acquire Hugging Face for $12.93 Billion

By Fiona Craig | September 03, 2026, 9:25 AM

Nvidia (NASDAQ:NVDA) has entered into a definitive agreement to acquire open-source artificial intelligence platform Hugging Face for $12.93 billion, bringing together Nvidia’s computing infrastructure with Hugging Face’s AI development ecosystem.

Hugging Face serves more than 18 million developers, researchers and creators, according to the announcement, with its platform used for enterprise and open-source AI deployment across more than 200,000 organisations.

The platform hosts more than 3 million AI models, 500,000 open datasets and 1 million applications.

Hugging Face to Remain an Open Multi-Cloud Platform

Nvidia said Hugging Face will continue operating under its existing brand as an open, multi-cloud platform following the acquisition.

Developers will retain the ability to select their preferred frameworks, cloud providers, inference engines and underlying hardware, while using or deploying through Hugging Face will not require Nvidia computing infrastructure.

Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang said: “AI advances faster when people can build together,” said Huang. “Nvidia’s infrastructure, engineering, and global reach will help scale platform reliability, safety, model evaluation, and deployment capabilities while preserving the open ecosystem that made Hugging Face foundational.”

Nvidia Expands Existing Hugging Face Relationship

Nvidia has already published more than 500 open-weight models and 250 datasets on Hugging Face and is described in the announcement as the platform’s largest contributor of open models and data.

The acquisition will expand the existing relationship between the two companies around open-weight models and AI development.

Hugging Face co-founders Clem Delangue, Julien Chaumond and Thomas Wolf will continue leading their team as the platform expands its operations globally.
