Stellantis (NYSE:STLA) is recalling 201,976 Jeep vehicles in the United States because of a software issue affecting the tire pressure monitoring system, according to the U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
The regulator said the software error could prevent the system from detecting low tire pressure or activating the corresponding warning light. NHTSA said the malfunction could increase the risk of a crash and means the affected vehicles do not comply with U.S. federal requirements for tire-pressure monitoring systems.
The recall covers certain Jeep Wagoneer, Grand Cherokee, Grand Cherokee L, Grand Cherokee 4XE and Grand Wagoneer vehicles.
Certain Wagoneer L, Grand Wagoneer L, Cherokee and Grand Wagoneer L PHEV vehicles are also included in the recall.
According to NHTSA, the problem may result in drivers not receiving a warning when tire pressure is below the required level.
Stellantis dealers will address the issue by updating the radio frequency hub software at no cost to vehicle owners, the regulator said.
