Amgen Inc. (NASDAQ:AMGN) and AstraZeneca PLC (LSE:AZN) said a late-stage study of Imdelltra combined with Imfinzi produced improved outcomes in patients with extensive-stage small-cell lung cancer.
The study assessed the two drugs as a maintenance treatment in patients whose cancer had not progressed after receiving standard initial therapy. Researchers compared the combination against treatment with Imfinzi alone.
Amgen and AstraZeneca reported that patients receiving Imdelltra and Imfinzi showed improvements in overall survival, progression-free survival and response rate. The companies also said the study did not identify any new safety concerns.
Imdelltra is a bispecific antibody developed by Amgen. The treatment is designed to bring cancer cells and immune cells together so that the immune system can target the cancer cells.
The U.S. Food and Drug Administration granted Imdelltra accelerated approval for extensive-stage small-cell lung cancer in 2024, followed by traditional approval in 2025. Amgen recorded $513 million in sales from Imdelltra last year. Oncology products account for approximately 23% of the company’s overall revenue.
