Critical Metals Corp. (NASDAQ:CRML) shares climbed 27% in premarket trading on Monday following President Donald Trump’s announcement of an agreement with Denmark concerning security arrangements for Greenland.
Trump said the agreement would give the United States permanent control over security on the Arctic island and address US concerns about the territory.
The announcement drew attention to Critical Metals because of its exposure to Greenland’s rare earth resources.
Greenland Security Agreement Draws Attention to Rare Earth Project
In April, Critical Metals agreed to acquire European Lithium Ltd., a transaction that gave it full ownership of a rare earth project in Greenland.
The acquisition increased Critical Metals’ control over the project’s financing and development, making the company directly exposed to developments affecting the territory.
The Greenland agreement has not yet been made public and is expected to be signed on Tuesday. While Trump has described it as granting Washington permanent control over security, Denmark says NATO will share responsibility for Arctic security. Greenland’s sovereignty is expected to remain unchanged.
