Meta Partners With Shopify to Introduce AI-Powered Shopping and Checkout in Muse

Meta Platforms (NASDAQ:META) has announced a partnership with Shopify (NASDAQ:SHOP) to integrate shopping and payment capabilities into its recently launched artificial intelligence agent, Muse.

Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg confirmed the agreement on Monday in a post on X, saying the collaboration would “make shopping and checkout easier in Muse.”

The partnership will allow users to complete purchases through Shopify’s Shop Pay service using Meta’s AI agent.

Shopify to Enable Agentic Checkout Across Its Stores

Shopify CEO Tobi Lutke announced the partnership earlier on Monday, explaining that it would enable agentic checkout through Shop Pay across all Shopify stores.

Agentic checkout allows an AI assistant to help users complete purchases, extending its role beyond product searches and recommendations.

The agreement connects Meta’s consumer-facing AI technology with Shopify’s ecommerce and payment infrastructure.

Shopify shares rose approximately 7% on Monday following the announcement.

Muse Gains Attention Following September Launch

Meta introduced Muse earlier in September as a personal AI agent available through a mobile application.

According to the report, the application experienced rapid growth in popularity during its first two weeks, overtaking OpenAI’s ChatGPT and prediction-market platforms Kalshi and Polymarket in Apple’s App Store rankings.

The partnership with Shopify adds ecommerce functionality to Muse as Meta expands the capabilities of its AI assistant.

Amazon Blocks Muse From Its Retail Website

The Shopify agreement contrasts with the approach taken by Amazon.com (NASDAQ:AMZN), which has blocked Meta’s Muse agent from accessing its retail website.

While Shopify is enabling AI-assisted transactions through Shop Pay, Amazon has restricted Muse’s access to its shopping platform.

The different approaches illustrate how major ecommerce companies are responding to the introduction of AI agents capable of assisting consumers with online purchases.
