Broadcom (NASDAQ:AVGO) Chief Executive Officer Hock Tan said on Monday that access to capital is likely to become the biggest constraint on artificial intelligence development, as the technology industry works to overcome shortages of semiconductor wafers and memory chips.
Speaking during a panel discussion in Singapore, Tan said the industry was making progress in addressing supply limitations affecting AI infrastructure, but the financial resources required to support continued expansion would present a more significant challenge.
His comments come as technology companies continue investing in the computing infrastructure needed to develop and deploy increasingly advanced AI models.
Tan also highlighted the commercial progress of leading AI developers Anthropic and OpenAI, saying both companies had demonstrated an ability to generate substantial revenue from their latest models, particularly through AI-powered personal assistants.
The remarks suggest that financing requirements could become an increasingly important factor in determining the pace of AI infrastructure expansion, even as semiconductor supply constraints ease.
