DataMeds AI Announces Workforce Reductions as It Prioritises ChemoFx Cancer Diagnostic Test Commercialisation

By Fiona Craig | October 13, 2026, 7:02 AM

DataMeds AI, Inc. (NASDAQ:MEDS) has announced cost-reduction measures, including cuts to corporate management positions, as the company redirects resources towards commercialising its ChemoFx diagnostic laboratory test for gynaecological cancers.

The restructuring follows DataMeds AI’s acquisition of Helomics Corporation on 11 September 2026, which brought the ChemoFx testing platform and additional oncology research capabilities into the company’s portfolio.

Management said the changes are intended to reduce corporate expenditure while concentrating workforce investment on the commercial development of ChemoFx, a laboratory test designed to help oncologists assess how a patient’s tumour cells respond to different chemotherapy treatments.

The company is also preparing to restart marketing activities and expand discussions with healthcare providers and organisations about incorporating the test into cancer diagnostic programmes.

Helomics Acquisition Provides Foundation for Oncology Strategy

DataMeds AI’s revised operating strategy follows its acquisition of Helomics Corporation, completed on 11 September 2026.

The transaction included Helomics’ Predictive Oncology Cancer Biomarker Super Intelligence division and its clinical laboratory operations in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.

The laboratory is certified under the Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments (CLIA), which establish quality standards for laboratory testing in the United States.

Through the acquisition, DataMeds AI gained access to the ChemoFx testing platform, clinical laboratory infrastructure and a substantial collection of tumour samples linked to clinical information.

The company is now focusing its spending on bringing ChemoFx to a wider commercial market while reducing selected corporate management costs.

DataMeds AI did not disclose the number of positions being eliminated or provide a financial estimate of the savings expected from the restructuring.

ChemoFx Tests Tumour Cell Responses to Chemotherapy

ChemoFx is a laboratory-developed diagnostic test that evaluates the response of live tumour cells to a panel of chemotherapy agents.

The test is intended to provide oncologists with additional information that may help inform treatment decisions for patients with cancer.

By examining tumour cell responses outside the patient’s body, the laboratory can assess how the tested cells react to different chemotherapy drugs.

The resulting information may be considered alongside other clinical findings when evaluating potential treatment approaches.

ChemoFx has been commercially available in the United States since 1997 and has two dedicated Current Procedural Terminology (CPT) codes, 81535 and 81536.

These codes are used to identify specific medical services and procedures for administrative and reimbursement purposes.

DataMeds AI said the ChemoFx business previously generated more than $25 million in annual revenue at its historical peak under earlier ownership.

That figure reflects past commercial performance rather than the company’s current revenue or a forecast of future sales.

Humana Medicaid Coverage Supports Commercial Relaunch Plans

DataMeds AI reported that ChemoFx has recently been included in a Humana Medicaid coverage policy for gynaecological cancers.

The development is relevant to the company’s efforts to expand access to the test through healthcare reimbursement arrangements.

However, inclusion in a coverage policy does not necessarily mean that every patient or testing request will qualify for reimbursement. Coverage remains subject to applicable policy requirements.

Gerald E. Commissiong, Interim Co-Chief Executive Officer of DataMeds AI, said the company is preparing to relaunch its marketing campaign for ChemoFx.

The company has also begun discussions with hospital systems, health maintenance organisations, group purchasing organisations and specialist cancer treatment centres.

These discussions are focused on the potential inclusion of ChemoFx in existing oncology testing programmes.

DataMeds AI has not announced any resulting commercial agreements or disclosed projected testing volumes from these discussions.

The company’s ability to expand ChemoFx adoption will depend on factors including clinical acceptance, reimbursement arrangements and healthcare provider demand.

Additional Clinical Research Planned Beyond Ovarian Cancer

Alongside its commercial initiatives, DataMeds AI intends to conduct additional analyses of clinical utility data involving solid tumours beyond ovarian cancer.

The company plans to prepare these analyses for peer review, potentially broadening the available evidence concerning ChemoFx and its applications in oncology.

Clinical utility research examines whether information provided by a diagnostic test can meaningfully influence patient management or clinical outcomes.

Such evidence can be important when healthcare providers and insurers assess the potential role of a diagnostic service.

DataMeds AI has not provided a publication timetable or disclosed the findings of the planned analyses.

The company said its existing clinical data resources could support further research into the application of chemotherapy response testing across different cancer types.

Tumour Repository Includes More Than 70,000 Samples

DataMeds AI said it controls a repository containing more than 70,000 de-identified tumour samples linked to clinical information.

The collection spans over 130 tumour types and includes approximately 20,000 ovarian cancer samples.

The repository represents a potential research resource for evaluating relationships between tumour characteristics, treatment responses and clinical outcomes.

De-identification involves removing or modifying information that could directly identify individual patients.

DataMeds AI may be able to use the dataset to support additional analyses and research activities, subject to applicable data-use requirements.

The company has not disclosed any new commercial agreements associated with the repository or provided a financial valuation for the data assets.

Its immediate focus remains on using its acquired oncology capabilities to support the commercial development of ChemoFx.

Health Lives Here App to Add Oncology Support Features

DataMeds AI also plans to develop an oncology support module within its Health Lives Here mobile application.

The app, which is available on Android and iOS devices, is designed to consolidate electronic health records and data from wearable devices into a central health dashboard.

The proposed oncology module would extend the platform’s functionality to support cancer-related health information.

The company has not provided a launch date or detailed specifications for the planned module.

The initiative forms part of DataMeds AI’s broader strategy to combine diagnostic services with digital healthcare tools.

Separately, nutraceutical partner Tollo Health, LLC, intends to develop nutritional support programmes for cancer patients in consultation with oncologists.

Tollo Health is a separate business led by Commissiong, who also serves as DataMeds AI’s Interim Co-Chief Executive Officer.

The company did not disclose financial terms or specific commercial arrangements associated with the proposed nutritional programmes.

ChemoFx Remains a Laboratory-Developed Test

ChemoFx is classified as a laboratory-developed test and has not received clearance or approval from the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA).

Its CLIA-certified laboratory setting and existing CPT codes should not be interpreted as equivalent to FDA clearance or approval.

The test’s clinical role, reimbursement eligibility and commercial adoption remain distinct considerations.

For DataMeds AI, the restructuring marks a shift towards concentrating resources on a diagnostic product with an established commercial history.

The company is seeking to build on the Helomics acquisition, historical ChemoFx revenues and recent Medicaid coverage developments while exploring additional clinical applications.

Near-term priorities include implementing the cost reductions, restarting marketing activities, progressing healthcare provider discussions and preparing further clinical utility analyses.

DataMeds AI has not disclosed the expected financial impact of the restructuring or provided revenue guidance for the ChemoFx commercialisation programme.
