Mastercard Launches Global Money Platform With BVNK to Integrate Stablecoin and Traditional Payments

By Fiona Craig | October 15, 2026, 8:53 AM

Mastercard (NYSE:MA) and BVNK have launched the Mastercard Global Money Platform, a payments infrastructure service designed to allow financial institutions and businesses to manage traditional currencies and stablecoins through a single application programming interface (API).

The launch represents the first major product integration between the companies since Mastercard acquired BVNK in August 2026.

According to the companies, the platform combines Mastercard’s global payments network with BVNK’s stablecoin technology, allowing banks, financial technology companies and enterprises to incorporate digital and conventional payment services into their existing systems.

The service supports multi-currency accounts, real-time foreign exchange conversion, stablecoin-linked payment cards and local bank transfers through Mastercard Move.

The Mastercard Global Money Platform is currently available through BVNK, with several financial technology companies identified as early integration partners.

Platform Combines Fiat Currency and Stablecoin Services

The new platform is intended to simplify how businesses access and manage different forms of money across international payment systems.

Through a single API, participating organisations can integrate accounts that support both fiat currencies, such as the US dollar and euro, and stablecoins.

Stablecoins are digital assets designed to maintain a relatively stable value, typically by reference to a conventional currency.

The Mastercard Global Money Platform allows businesses to incorporate services for receiving, holding, converting and transferring funds without developing separate infrastructure for each payment method.

The companies said the platform also supports real-time currency conversion, enabling businesses to move value between supported currencies and payment systems.

Additional capabilities include stablecoin-linked cards, which allow users to spend balances held in digital assets through Mastercard’s existing acceptance network.

The integration is intended to connect conventional banking services with blockchain-based payment infrastructure while using Mastercard’s established global network.

Mastercard Move Provides Access to More Than 17 Billion Endpoints

The platform incorporates Mastercard Move, the company’s money movement service, which currently reaches more than 17 billion endpoints worldwide.

Mastercard said it expects the platform’s coverage to expand to more than 40 currencies across over 200 countries and territories by 2027.

The planned expansion would increase the geographic reach of the service and broaden the range of currencies available to participating businesses.

Stablecoin balances can also be used for purchases at hundreds of millions of merchant locations that accept Mastercard payments.

Card issuing capabilities are available in more than 130 countries, allowing eligible financial institutions and businesses to offer payment cards linked to supported balances.

These features are intended to provide businesses with additional options for international payments, currency management and customer transactions.

The companies have not disclosed specific transaction volume targets or revenue expectations associated with the launch.

Nuvei and Marqeta Among Initial Integration Partners

Mastercard and BVNK identified Nuvei and Marqeta as two of the first companies expected to integrate the Global Money Platform.

Other early participants include Ontop, Beem and Almond FinTech.

The involvement of these businesses reflects the platform’s intended use across payment processing, financial technology and international money movement services.

By providing a common infrastructure for fiat and stablecoin transactions, Mastercard aims to reduce the need for businesses to maintain separate technical integrations for different payment systems.

The platform is structured as a modular toolkit, allowing customers to select services according to their operational requirements.

Its capabilities cover six principal activities: sending, receiving, converting, storing, spending and earning.

This structure allows businesses to integrate individual functions rather than necessarily adopting the complete range of services.

Mastercard Plans Support for Agentic Commerce and Tokenised Deposits

Mastercard said it intends to expand the platform’s capabilities to support additional forms of digital financial activity.

Planned developments include support for agentic commerce, in which artificial intelligence systems can carry out certain commercial activities or transactions on behalf of users within defined parameters.

The company also intends to introduce support for tokenised deposits, which represent conventional bank deposits using digital tokens.

These planned features would extend the platform beyond its initial combination of fiat currencies and stablecoins.

Chris Harmse, co-founder and Chief Business Officer at BVNK, described the broader ambition behind the service.

“Global Money Platform will become the single infrastructure layer not just for stablecoins, but for every form of money,” Harmse said.

The statement reflects the companies’ objective of developing a common infrastructure for different payment technologies, although the additional capabilities remain subject to future implementation.

Mastercard Expands Digital Asset Infrastructure Following BVNK Acquisition

The launch marks a significant operational development following Mastercard’s acquisition of BVNK in August 2026.

By incorporating BVNK’s stablecoin technology into its existing payment infrastructure, Mastercard is expanding the range of digital asset services available to financial institutions and corporate customers.

Raj Dhamodharan, Executive Vice President of Blockchain and Digital Assets at Mastercard, highlighted the combination of the two companies’ capabilities.

The platform “brings together Mastercard’s trusted payment infrastructure and reach with BVNK’s stablecoin capabilities, giving businesses a single foundation to move value across traditional and digital ecosystems,” Dhamodharan said.

The service is positioned to support businesses seeking to integrate stablecoin payments without relying exclusively on separate blockchain infrastructure.

For Mastercard, the initiative broadens its involvement in digital asset payments while maintaining connections to traditional financial systems.

The Mastercard Global Money Platform is available now through BVNK, with additional geographic coverage and functionality planned for 2027.
