CrowdStrike Holdings Inc (NASDAQ:CRWD) stock is down 0.8% to trade at $226.28 at last glance, as the shares continue to retreat from their Oct. 6 record-high of $286.99. Although the shares are pacing for a sixth session decline out of seven, a historically bullish trendline is now flashing, which could suggest more record highs are on the way.
Per Schaeffer's Senior Quantitative Analyst Rocky White, CRWD has traded within 0.75 times the 80-day moving average's 20-day average true range (ATR), after spending at least 80% of the previous two weeks above the trendline. This setup has occurred 15 other times over the last decade, after which the stock was higher one month later 60% of the time, averaging an 9.3% gain. From its current perch, a move of this magnitude would put CRWD just shy of $250 -- well on its way back toward record levels.
It's worth noting CRWD sports a Schaeffer's put/call open interest ratio (SOIR) of 1.12, which ranks higher than 82% of readings from the past year. In other words, short-term bears have dominated of late, leaving bulls plenty of room to make a move should this attention begin to unwind.
Options are relatively affordable at the moment too. This is per the cybersecurity stock's Schaeffer's Volatility Index (SVI) of 54%, which sits in the 18th percentile of its annual range.
Plus, CRWD's Schaeffer's Volatility Scorecard (SVS) sits at 77 out of 100, suggesting the equity has tended to outperform options traders' volatility expectations during the past year.
