JetBlue Airways Shares Rise 5.5% Premarket as Airline Forecasts Q4 Revenue Growth and Margin Improvement

By Fiona Craig | October 27, 2026, 7:29 AM

JetBlue Airways (NASDAQ:JBLU) shares advanced 5.5% in premarket trading on Tuesday after the airline released its third-quarter 2026 financial results and provided fourth-quarter guidance indicating expectations for higher revenue per available seat mile and improved operating margins.

The increase followed a period of declining share prices, including a record intraday low of $2.16 on Monday amid concerns about the airline’s debt position and reports involving advisers to senior creditors.

JetBlue reported an adjusted loss of $0.60 per share and quarterly revenue of $2.81 billion, both slightly below analyst consensus estimates. However, the company outlined expectations for fourth-quarter revenue per available seat mile growth of 18% to 22% year over year and operating margin expansion of one to two percentage points.

JetBlue Reports Q3 Revenue of $2.81 Billion

JetBlue reported third-quarter 2026 revenue of $2.81 billion and an adjusted loss of $0.60 per share.

Both figures were slightly below Wall Street expectations, although the company reported a year-over-year improvement in its adjusted operating margin.

The airline attributed its quarterly revenue performance to passenger demand and ticket yields.

Chief Executive Officer Joanna Geraghty commented on the results in the company’s earnings announcement, stating that “resilient demand and strong yields drove revenue well ahead of our initial expectations.”

The statement reflects management’s assessment of the quarter’s performance relative to the company’s earlier projections.

Fourth-Quarter Revenue per Available Seat Mile Expected to Increase 18% to 22%

JetBlue’s fourth-quarter guidance was a central element of its earnings announcement.

The airline expects revenue per available seat mile, a measure of revenue generated relative to available passenger capacity, to increase between 18% and 22% compared with the corresponding period of 2025.

Management also anticipates an improvement of one to two percentage points in operating margin during the fourth quarter.

The projections indicate that JetBlue expects the revenue and margin trends identified in its third-quarter results to continue into the final three months of 2026.

These figures represent management forecasts rather than confirmed future results.

Management Reaffirms 2028 Earnings and Free Cash Flow Objectives

JetBlue also reiterated its longer-term financial objectives, including a target of at least $1 in earnings per share and positive free cash flow in 2028.

Chief Financial Officer Ursula Hurley expressed confidence that the airline has sufficient liquidity and access to financing options to support its plans.

The company’s stated objectives remain dependent on future operating performance and financing conditions.

JetBlue scheduled an earnings conference call for 10:00 a.m. Eastern Time on Tuesday to provide additional information about its financial results and outlook.

The call follows the publication of the airline’s third-quarter earnings after Monday’s market close.

Shares Rebound Following Declines and Creditor Reports

JetBlue’s premarket increase followed a period of share price declines.

The stock had fallen approximately 45% over the preceding month and reached a record intraday low of $2.16 during Monday’s regular trading session.

The declines occurred amid concerns about the airline’s debt position and reports that senior creditors had engaged restructuring adviser PJT Partners and law firm Akin Gump.

The reported involvement of advisers does not, by itself, establish that JetBlue has initiated a restructuring process.

Several Wall Street firms had also reduced their price targets for the airline’s shares in the days preceding the earnings announcement.

Airline Sector Faces Fuel Cost and Earnings Pressures

JetBlue’s recent share price movements also occurred against a backdrop of developments affecting the broader airline industry.

Delta Air Lines had previously reported earnings below expectations and reduced its guidance, adding to investor attention on operating costs and financial performance across the sector.

Fuel costs were among the pressures identified in the industry outlook.

Meanwhile, major U.S. equity indices showed limited movement during the period surrounding JetBlue’s premarket advance.

The S&P 500 was approximately unchanged, the Dow Jones Industrial Average showed little movement, and the Nasdaq Composite declined marginally.

Investors Assess JetBlue’s Outlook Following Third-Quarter Results

JetBlue’s third-quarter earnings announcement combined revenue and adjusted earnings below analyst expectations with guidance for fourth-quarter revenue per available seat mile growth of 18% to 22%.

The airline also projected operating margin improvement of one to two percentage points in the fourth quarter and maintained its objectives of at least $1 in earnings per share and positive free cash flow in 2028.

Shares rose 5.5% in premarket trading after the announcement, following a period of declines associated with debt-related concerns and industry operating pressures.

The company’s upcoming earnings conference call is expected to provide further details about its forecasts, liquidity position and longer-term financial objectives.
