Boston Scientific Corporation (NYSE:BSX) shares declined 3.48% in pre-market trading on Wednesday after the medical device manufacturer reported third-quarter 2026 earnings below analyst expectations and issued fourth-quarter and full-year guidance that fell short of market forecasts.
The company reported adjusted earnings per share of $0.73, compared with the consensus estimate of $0.75. Revenue increased 1.5% year over year to $5.14 billion, slightly exceeding analysts’ expectations of $5.12 billion.
Fourth-Quarter and Full-Year Outlook Below Estimates
Boston Scientific forecast fourth-quarter adjusted earnings per share of $0.77 to $0.79, below the $0.83 consensus estimate. The midpoint of $0.78 represents a shortfall of approximately 6%.
For the full year, the company expects adjusted earnings per share of $3.16 to $3.18, compared with analysts’ expectations of $3.24.
Fourth-quarter net sales are projected to decline between 1% and 3% year over year, reversing the modest growth recorded during the third quarter.
The company attributed some of its operational challenges to a cybersecurity incident earlier in the year.
“This has been a challenging year for Boston Scientific and I’m proud of how our global teams have responded, particularly to the cybersecurity incident, working with urgency and resilience to restore operations and continue supporting customers and patients,” said Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Mike Mahoney.
Cardiovascular and MedSurg Revenue Increase
Boston Scientific reported a 1.9% increase in Cardiovascular revenue to $3.41 billion, while its MedSurg division recorded growth of 0.6% to $1.73 billion.
US revenue rose 0.5% to $3.31 billion. International performance was mixed, with sales in Europe, the Middle East and Africa increasing 4.4%, while Asia-Pacific revenue declined 0.6%.
Boston Scientific Maintains Growth Expectations for 2026
For the full year 2026, Boston Scientific expects reported net sales growth of approximately 4.25%, alongside organic revenue growth of approximately 3.75%.
Despite exceeding third-quarter revenue expectations, the company’s weaker earnings performance and lower forecasts contributed to the decline in its shares before the opening bell.
The fourth-quarter outlook indicates continued pressure on sales and profitability as Boston Scientific works through the operational effects of the earlier cybersecurity incident.
