Pre-market futures are seeing some investors buying-in following Friday’s heavy selloff, particularly in the tech-heavy (and AI-play) Nasdaq, which dumped nearly -2.9% on the day, nearly -750 points by the close. At this hour, the Nasdaq is back up +279 points, the blue-chip Dow +361 and the S&P 500 is adding +43 points. The small-cap Russell 2000 is up +21 points currently.
With the U.S. midterm elections one day away (thankfully!), we’re seeing renewed hope on the peace front in the ongoing war with Iran. This has helped ease spot oil prices roughly -4% — to $97 per barrel (/bbl) on WTI and $106/bbl on Brent crude. Bond yields have also cooled from their inflamed levels four weeks ago: the 10-year is now +4.908% while the 2-year, back inside a 40-bps margin with the 10-year, sits at +4.598%.
Ahead of today’s open, Estee Lauder EL reported a big positive earnings surprise of +38.46% in its fiscal Q1: $0.72 versus $0.52 in the Zacks consensus. Revenues of $3.72 billion in the quarter outpaced estimates by +1.86%. The cosmetics giant increased its guidance for the ongoing quarter, and the share price is up +2.8% on the news this morning. Global hotelier Marriott MAR posted a mixed Q3 report this morning, with earnings of $3.02 per share outperforming expectations by +5.59% versus $7.01 billion in quarterly revenues, which came in -0.54% shy of the Zacks consensus. Yet shares are up +5% in early trading on raised full-year earnings guidance, adding to the +28% stock gains year to date. For more on MAR’s earnings, click here.
Roughly a half hour after today’s closing bell, we’ll see fiscal Q4 results from Apple AAPL, one of the so-called “Mag 7” companies — and the one that, interestingly, did not jump into the AI buildout race. Expectations are for earnings to have gained +7% year over year to $1.98 per share, on $112.95 billion in revenues which would be +10.23% above the year-ago tally. iPhone 18 numbers will be key in this report. Apple shares currently have a Zacks Rank #3 (Hold).
We’ll also see results from two Zacks Rank #1 (Strong Buy) companies after today’s close: Roku ROKU and Lattice Semiconductor LSCC. While we await word on the progress on Roku’s $22 billion buyout from Fox FOX, we expect the smart-TV streaming service to have brought +243% earnings growth from a year ago on +16.5% in sales. For Lattice, a “companion” AI play which provides programmable solutions, +100% earnings growth is expected on +92.3% revenue growth.
