Estee Lauder Targets Mid-Single-Digit Sales Growth and Higher Profit Margins by Fiscal 2030

By Fiona Craig | November 04, 2026, 6:29 AM

Estée Lauder Companies (NYSE:EL) has outlined new financial targets through fiscal 2030, aiming to achieve sustainable mid-single-digit annual organic sales growth and double-digit adjusted earnings per share growth as the beauty group builds on its recovery in China and focuses on improving profitability.

The company, whose portfolio includes La Mer, MAC Cosmetics and Tom Ford Beauty, also expects its adjusted operating margin to reach between 16.5% and 18.5% by fiscal 2030.

The targets were presented at an investor event in Shanghai on Wednesday and reflect the company’s efforts to restore growth following several years of challenging trading conditions, particularly in the Chinese market.

Estée Lauder Sets Long-Term Revenue and Earnings Targets

Estée Lauder’s financial objectives are intended to establish a more consistent growth trajectory while supporting improved operating efficiency.

The company is targeting sustainable annual organic sales growth in the mid-single digits, alongside double-digit growth in adjusted earnings per share.

Its adjusted operating margin target of 16.5% to 18.5% for fiscal 2030 reflects expectations that restructuring measures, improved productivity and stronger sales performance will contribute to higher profitability.

The strategy follows a period of weaker results caused partly by subdued consumer spending in China, increased competition from domestic cosmetics companies and pressure from unauthorised retailers selling discounted products.

China Recovery Supports Growth Strategy

Mainland China remains a central component of Estée Lauder’s longer-term growth plans.

The company has reported positive organic sales growth in the market for four consecutive quarters, indicating an improvement following an extended period of challenging demand conditions.

China generated approximately $3.1 billion in net sales during Estée Lauder’s most recent fiscal year, accounting for around 20% of total company revenue.

The importance of the market has prompted the group to increase its focus on products and marketing initiatives tailored specifically to Chinese consumers.

These efforts are intended to strengthen brand positioning and support demand in a competitive beauty market.

MAC Cosmetics Turnaround Provides Model for Other Brands

Estée Lauder plans to apply lessons from the recovery of MAC Cosmetics to other businesses within its portfolio.

The company identified Aveda as one of the brands that could benefit from approaches developed during MAC’s turnaround.

The strategy involves adapting product development and marketing activities to changing consumer preferences while improving brand performance across different markets.

By extending successful initiatives to additional brands, Estée Lauder aims to generate more consistent growth throughout its portfolio.

Profit Recovery Plan Expected to Drive Margin Expansion

The company expects its adjusted operating margin to improve over the coming years, supported by initiatives under its Profit Recovery and Growth Plan.

The programme, which runs through fiscal 2027, is designed to strengthen profitability and improve operating efficiency.

Estée Lauder anticipates that margin expansion will be greater in fiscal 2028 than in fiscal 2029 and fiscal 2030.

This reflects the expected full-year contribution of measures implemented under the recovery plan, with subsequent improvements projected to occur at a more moderate pace.

The company is seeking to balance continued investment in growth opportunities with tighter cost management as it works towards its fiscal 2030 profitability objectives.

Tax Rate and Cash Flow Improvements Targeted

Estée Lauder also outlined expectations for its tax position and cash generation.

The company aims to reduce its adjusted effective tax rate to 30% or below by fiscal 2030.

Higher earnings, lower restructuring-related payments and improvements in working capital efficiency are expected to support operating cash flow and free cash flow.

These measures form part of the group’s broader efforts to strengthen its financial performance as the recovery strategy progresses.

Restructuring Charges Expected to Continue Into Fiscal 2028

Although the Profit Recovery and Growth Plan is scheduled to run through fiscal 2027, Estée Lauder expects additional restructuring-related costs in the following financial year.

The company anticipates approximately $40 million to $50 million in restructuring and other charges before taxes during fiscal 2028.

These expenses reflect the continuing financial impact of measures associated with the group’s operational transformation.

Estée Lauder also highlighted potential changes to its sales outlook arising from its acquisition of Forest Essentials.

The transaction could affect reported net sales during the first quarter of fiscal 2028, although the company said it was not yet able to estimate the potential impact with reasonable certainty.

Outlook for Fiscal 2030

Estée Lauder’s long-term targets reflect expectations that improving conditions in China, stronger brand performance and restructuring benefits will support a return to more sustainable growth.

The company’s ability to achieve its objectives will depend partly on maintaining positive sales momentum in China and successfully extending its brand recovery initiatives across the wider portfolio.

Investors will also be monitoring progress towards the targeted operating margin of 16.5% to 18.5%, alongside improvements in cash generation and adjusted earnings per share.

The fiscal 2030 objectives establish a framework for assessing the company’s financial recovery as it moves beyond the current restructuring programme.
