Super Micro Computer Shares Jump Over 7% as Q1 Earnings Beat Estimates and AI Server Demand Drives Growth

By Fiona Craig | November 04, 2026, 6:35 AM

Super Micro Computer (NASDAQ:SMCI) shares climbed more than 7% in premarket trading on Wednesday after the server manufacturer reported fiscal first-quarter earnings and revenue significantly above Wall Street expectations and issued stronger-than-anticipated guidance, supported by continued demand for artificial intelligence infrastructure.

The company, commonly known as Supermicro, reported adjusted earnings of $1.81 per share for the first quarter of fiscal 2027, exceeding analysts’ expectations of $1.23 per share. Revenue reached a record $19.9 billion, representing a 298% increase from $5 billion in the corresponding period a year earlier.

The results highlighted the scale of investment in AI computing infrastructure as cloud service providers and other technology companies continue expanding their data centre capacity.

Supermicro Reports Record First-Quarter Revenue of $19.9 Billion

Supermicro’s fiscal first-quarter results substantially exceeded market forecasts, reflecting accelerating demand for its server and storage systems.

Revenue of $19.9 billion surpassed the analyst consensus of $16.26 billion by approximately $3.64 billion, or 22.4%.

Adjusted earnings per share of $1.81 were approximately 47.2% above the $1.23 expected by analysts.

The company had previously indicated that quarterly revenue would range between $18.5 billion and $19.5 billion, citing increased demand for AI computing platforms.

Final revenue exceeded even the upper end of that preliminary guidance.

Profitability also improved, with adjusted gross margin rising to 12.8% from 9.5% in the year-earlier period, an increase of 3.3 percentage points.

The combination of higher sales and stronger margins reflected the company’s expanding position in the market for advanced computing infrastructure.

AI Infrastructure Spending Supports Rapid Expansion

Supermicro has benefited from growing investment in artificial intelligence infrastructure as technology companies increase spending on computing systems capable of supporting AI workloads.

The company supplies servers, storage systems and integrated data centre solutions used by cloud providers, enterprises and other customers deploying artificial intelligence applications.

Its product portfolio includes systems incorporating accelerated computing technology developed by Nvidia.

Chief Executive Officer Charles Liang highlighted the company’s expanding role in the AI infrastructure market.

“Supermicro’s transformation into a Total AI and IT Datacenter Solution provider continues to accelerate, delivering record revenue of $19.9 billion for the first quarter fiscal 2027,” Liang said.

The company’s results indicate that demand for AI servers remains strong despite broader investor concerns about the scale and financial returns of infrastructure investment across the technology sector.

Second-Quarter Revenue and Earnings Guidance Exceed Forecasts

Supermicro expects its growth momentum to continue during the second quarter of fiscal 2027.

The company forecast quarterly revenue of between $19.5 billion and $21.5 billion, representing a midpoint of $20.5 billion.

That figure is approximately 17.1% above the analyst consensus estimate of $17.51 billion.

Supermicro also projected adjusted earnings of $1.66 to $1.90 per share for the quarter.

The midpoint of $1.78 per share exceeds Wall Street’s expectation of $1.14 by approximately 56.1%.

The guidance reflects expectations of continued demand for AI computing platforms and data centre infrastructure as customers expand their processing capacity.

The stronger-than-expected outlook contributed to the positive market reaction following the earnings announcement.

Full-Year Revenue Forecast Reaches as High as $82 Billion

Supermicro also presented an optimistic outlook for the full fiscal year.

The company expects annual revenue of between $72 billion and $82 billion, with a midpoint of $77 billion.

This compares with the analyst consensus forecast of $70.27 billion, placing the midpoint approximately 9.6% above expectations.

The guidance indicates that management anticipates sustained demand for its products throughout fiscal 2027.

The projected revenue range also reflects the company’s expectations for continued large-scale deployment of AI servers and related infrastructure.

Investors will be monitoring whether Supermicro can maintain its expansion while improving operating efficiency and profitability.

Cash Flow Remains a Key Consideration

Despite the substantial increase in revenue and earnings, Supermicro’s cash flow performance remains an important factor for investors.

The company reported operating cash outflows of $434 million during the first quarter.

As of September 30, Supermicro held approximately $6.9 billion in cash and cash equivalents, compared with $8.6 billion in bank debt and convertible notes.

The figures highlight the working capital requirements associated with rapid growth in the hardware manufacturing sector.

Expanding server production can require significant investment in inventory and components before customer payments are received.

Consequently, strong revenue growth does not necessarily translate immediately into positive operating cash flow.

The company’s ability to manage these requirements will remain important as it increases production to meet demand.

Raymond James Raises Price Target to $65

Analysts at Raymond James maintained a positive assessment of Supermicro following the results, while identifying several factors that could influence its longer-term performance.

The brokerage reiterated its Outperform rating and increased its price target to $65 from $48.

In a research note, analysts highlighted the role of customer advance payments in financing the company’s expansion.

“Customer prepayments funded most of the working capital build, and should alleviate investor concerns after $6.8B of operating cash used in FY26,” the analysts said.

The comments suggest that advance payments from customers have helped reduce the financial burden associated with the company’s rapid growth.

However, Raymond James also identified potential risks relating to customer concentration and competitive developments.

“We see customer concentration, and the potential that the large customer shifts toward white box as it scales in the future, as the key debates alongside the export control investigation, which remains difficult to quantify,” the analysts added.

The brokerage’s assessment indicates that, despite strong financial results, investors should continue monitoring the company’s exposure to major customers and regulatory uncertainty.

Outlook for Super Micro Computer

Supermicro’s first-quarter performance and stronger-than-expected guidance indicate continued demand for AI servers and data centre infrastructure.

The company’s revenue growth reflects its position within the expanding market for advanced computing systems, while improved gross margins suggest progress in profitability.

However, the sustainability of its growth will depend on maintaining customer demand, managing working capital requirements and navigating competitive and regulatory risks.

Investors will also be watching whether the company can convert its expanding sales into stronger operating cash flow.

With full-year revenue projected to reach between $72 billion and $82 billion, Supermicro’s performance over the coming quarters will provide an important indication of the durability of AI infrastructure spending.
