Intuitive Machines has a contract problem most companies would envy. It ended the second quarter with a record $1.8 billion backlog, up from just $213 million at the end of 2025, after the Lanteris deal turned a lunar lander specialist into something management now calls an integrated space prime. The stock has still lost more than a quarter of its value since that report. When the company reports third-quarter results before the open on November 12, the question is whether all that booked work can show up as revenue, margin and cash fast enough to calm a market that has stopped giving it the benefit of the doubt.
Wall Street expects revenue of about $243.3 million, up roughly 364% from $52.4 million a year ago and a solid step up from the $206.2 million reported last quarter. The bottom line looks less rosy. Consensus calls for a loss of 12 cents a share, double the year-ago loss of 6 cents, and the whisper number of a 16-cent loss suggests some on the Street expect results closer to the second quarter's red ink than the official estimate allows. That leaves a fairly forgiving earnings bar, but it also shows how little faith there is in a near-term profit turn.
The full-year math deserves close attention. Management reaffirmed 2026 revenue guidance of $900 million to $1 billion, and the Street's $921.1 million sits near the low end of that range. First-half revenue came to about $393 million, so a quarter in line with consensus would still leave roughly $285 million to deliver in the fourth quarter to match Street forecasts. Management said the width of the range depends on when contracts are definitized, not on demand. It also cut the share of backlog expected to convert to 2026 revenue to 25% to 30%, from 60% to 65% a quarter earlier, because newer awards stretch further out. A third quarter at or above $243 million, along with a clear pace for definitizing contracts, would support the guidance. A shortfall would raise the risk that 2026 ends at or below the bottom of the range.
Profitability is the other major test. Adjusted EBITDA swung from a positive $2.7 million in the first quarter to a loss of $14 million in the second. A $14.7 million cost-estimate charge on the IM4 mission did most of the damage, with higher SG&A and R&D spending adding to it. Management still expects positive adjusted EBITDA for the full year, which means the second half must make up a first-half deficit of roughly $11 million. Investors should look for gross profit to keep climbing from $36 million, for no repeat of the cost overruns, and for operating cash burn to ease from $60 million. Capital spending is expected to stay high for the NSNS constellation, and cash of $367 million was reached only after a $235 million at-the-market stock sale. A faster burn would revive dilution worries.
Bookings are where the bullish case could regain momentum. Management said the L3Harris Golden Dome order for 18 satellites would be booked in the third quarter, expected about $300 million more from authorizations to proceed in the second half, and planned to bid on CLPS II and several additional lunar task orders. A backlog that holds steady or grows after the Golden Dome booking would show demand is keeping pace with conversion.
Sentiment has soured noticeably, with bearish readings roughly doubling from the prior quarter. The stock trades near $10.48, about half its 200-day moving average and not far above its post-earnings low of $9.82. A share price that has fallen this far gives a clean quarter room to surprise. The core issue is unchanged, though. Management argued last quarter that timing, not demand, was the only real variable. This report needs to show that timing is improving, with revenue conversion, contained costs and a credible route to positive full-year EBITDA.
