Cloudflare Inc (NYSE:NET) shares climbed more than 14% in premarket trading on Friday after the cloud connectivity and cybersecurity company reported third-quarter financial results that exceeded analysts’ expectations and issued stronger-than-anticipated guidance for the remainder of 2026.
The company benefited from accelerating enterprise adoption, growing demand for its developer platform and increased investment in artificial intelligence infrastructure. Revenue growth reached its fastest pace in almost four years, while adjusted profitability and operating cash flow also improved.
For the quarter ended September 30, Cloudflare generated revenue of $782.5 million, representing a 39% increase from the previous year and exceeding Wall Street’s consensus estimate of $736.8 million.
Adjusted diluted earnings per share rose to $0.38 from $0.27 a year earlier, surpassing analysts’ expectations of $0.34 per share.
Cloudflare’s third-quarter performance reflected increased demand from enterprise customers seeking cloud security, network connectivity and application development services.
The company reported a 37% year-over-year increase in current remaining performance obligations (cRPO), an indicator of contracted revenue expected to be recognised over the following 12 months.
The improvement suggested continued momentum in customer commitments and provided additional visibility into future revenue.
Cloudflare also highlighted growing adoption of its developer platform, supported by companies building and deploying applications associated with artificial intelligence.
Chief Executive Officer and co-founder Matthew Prince described the quarter as a milestone for the business.
“Cloudflare delivered its strongest quarter to date, exceeding $3 billion in annualised revenue as quarterly sales reached approximately $782 million, representing 39% growth from a year earlier,” Prince said.
He also emphasised the company’s positioning in the evolving technology market, describing Cloudflare as having “created a development platform designed for the AI-driven internet.”
The comments reflected management’s view that demand for AI infrastructure, application development and cybersecurity services could support further expansion.
Cloudflare reported adjusted operating income of $137.1 million, compared with $85.9 million in the third quarter of 2025.
The adjusted operating margin increased to 17.5% from 15.3%, indicating improved profitability as revenue expanded.
The margin improvement reflected the company’s ability to generate additional operating earnings from higher sales while continuing to invest in infrastructure and product development.
However, results calculated under generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) showed a wider operating loss.
Cloudflare recorded a GAAP operating loss of $67.9 million, compared with $37.5 million in the corresponding period last year.
The company reported $174.1 million in stock-based compensation expenses and $11.0 million in restructuring charges, which contributed to the difference between adjusted and reported operating results.
GAAP net loss widened to $34.1 million, equivalent to $0.10 per share, from a net loss of $1.3 million in the previous year.
The figures highlighted the contrast between Cloudflare’s improving adjusted profitability and the expenses affecting its GAAP financial performance.
Cash generation strengthened during the quarter, even as Cloudflare continued investing in its technology infrastructure.
Operating cash flow increased to $215.4 million from $167.1 million a year earlier.
Free cash flow reached $82.1 million, representing approximately 10% of quarterly revenue.
At September 30, Cloudflare held $5.13 billion in cash, cash equivalents and available-for-sale securities.
The company’s liquidity position provides financial resources to support continued infrastructure expansion, product development and other strategic investments.
Management has identified cybersecurity requirements and the increasing use of artificial intelligence applications as important sources of demand for Cloudflare’s services.
The combination of revenue growth, stronger adjusted operating margins and positive free cash flow demonstrated continued progress in scaling the business, although GAAP losses remained a factor in its financial results.
Cloudflare issued fourth-quarter guidance substantially ahead of analysts’ expectations.
The company forecast revenue between $845.0 million and $846.0 million, compared with the market consensus of $798.2 million.
Adjusted diluted earnings per share are expected to reach $0.43, exceeding the consensus estimate of $0.38.
The outlook suggests that management expects the strong demand environment to continue through the final quarter of 2026.
The projected improvement in adjusted earnings also indicates expectations of further operating leverage as revenue expands.
Cloudflare’s forecast reflects continued enterprise spending on network services, security products and developer technologies, including applications associated with artificial intelligence.
For the full year, Cloudflare now expects revenue between $2.963 billion and $2.964 billion.
The forecast is comfortably above Wall Street’s previous consensus estimate of $2.87 billion.
The company also projected full-year adjusted earnings of $1.35 per share, compared with analysts’ expectations of $1.26.
The stronger guidance reinforced management’s confidence in the company’s growth prospects and its ability to improve adjusted profitability.
Cloudflare’s performance has been supported by increasing enterprise adoption and demand for services that help businesses secure and operate applications across distributed networks.
The expansion of AI-related workloads has also created additional opportunities for its developer platform and infrastructure services.
The more than 14% increase in Cloudflare shares during Friday’s premarket session reflected a positive investor response to the company’s earnings performance and upgraded outlook.
Revenue growth of 39%, improving adjusted operating margins and a 37% increase in current remaining performance obligations indicated strengthening business momentum.
At the same time, the company’s wider GAAP losses and substantial stock-based compensation expenses remain important considerations when evaluating its overall profitability.
Investors will continue to monitor Cloudflare’s ability to sustain enterprise demand, expand its AI-related services and translate revenue growth into stronger cash generation.
The company’s fourth-quarter performance and progress towards its revised full-year targets will provide further evidence of whether the current pace of expansion can be maintained into 2027.
