RTX's (RTX) Raytheon Completes Successful 360-Degree LTAMDS Flight Test

The company announced on August 18 that its subsidiary, Raytheon, had successfully completed a 360-degree flight test for its Lower Tier Air and Missile Defense Sensor (LTAMDS) at White Sands Missile Range in New Mexico. The primary purpose of the test was to demonstrate the LTAMDS’s 360-degree sensing capability. The system utilized one of its secondary radar arrays to “track and intercept a complex, threat representative target.”

The LTAMDS is fitted with three radar arrays that deliver full-sector sensing for complete 360-degree coverage. Raytheon states that this design is specifically built to defend against large-scale, coordinated attacks involving diverse threats such as drones, advanced aircraft, and ballistic, cruise, and hypersonic missiles.
