Elon Musk's social media platform X (formerly known as Twitter) ran into another major service disruption on Friday, adding to a week marked by high-profile outages across major digital and telecom networks.

X suffered another widespread outage on Friday, marking its second major disruption this week.

X Goes Down Again As Error Reports Surge

The website and app are failing to load properly or are briefly working before flashing error messages as per reports.

Downdetector recorded thousands of outage reports beginning around 10 a.m. Eastern time, with issues still ongoing at the time of reporting.

In the U.S. alone, more than 74,000 users flagged problems between 9 a.m. and 10 a.m. EST as per Downdetector.

Other Issues With X

Friday's disruption marked the second large-scale outage for X in the same week, following a similar technical breakdown earlier.

Apart from the outage, in the first week of January, X faced international scrutiny after its Grok AI chatbot allowed users to generate sexually explicit images of women and children.

The European Commission called the content “illegal” and “appalling,” condemning the AI’s ability to produce sexualized images of minors.

In India, the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology ordered X to conduct a “comprehensive technical, procedural and governance-level review” of Grok by Jan. 5.

Telecom Disruptions Add To Broader Network Concerns

Verizon Communications (NYSE:VZ) experienced a nationwide outage on Wednesday that disrupted calling, texting and data services for hours.

Verizon restored service by Wednesday night. The company later clarified that customers will receive a $20 credit.
