Oracle (NYSE:ORCL) shares moved higher in premarket trading on Monday after a report suggested the company is leading the competition to provide cloud infrastructure services to the Japanese government.
Oracle reportedly ahead in bidding process
According to a Financial Times report citing seven people familiar with the discussions, Oracle is currently ahead of Amazon Web Services, Microsoft and Google in negotiations over the potential contract.
The report said the Japanese government has not yet reached a final decision and could still divide the work between multiple cloud providers, according to two sources familiar with the matter.

Oracle, Microsoft, Google and the office of Japan’s prime minister declined to comment on the report.
Amazon Web Services told the Financial Times:
“We engage with every customer, including the government of Japan, to design the architecture that best meets their security, sovereignty, and mission needs.”

The potential agreement highlights the intense competition among the world’s leading cloud infrastructure providers to secure major government technology contracts.
