Asian Markets, Served Scrambled

Asian markets were once more scattered today. Hong Kong’s Hang Seng rose 2%, while China’s Shanghai Composite tacked on 0.4%, as consumer cyclicals picked up the tech slack. Among the laggards, South Korea’s Kospi extended its rut with a 6% selloff, as SK Hynix and Samsung Electronics fell 10% and 5%, respectively. Japan’s Nikkei gave back 1.5%, with SoftBank dropping 7%.

European bourses are cautiously higher at midday. London’s FTSE 100 is up 0.3% at last look, as is the German DAX, the latter boosted by a post-earnings pop from Deutsche Bank. The French CAC 40, meanwhile, is 0.5% lower.
