Futures on the S&P 500 Index (SPX) are more modestly positioned, while Nasdaq-100 (NDX) futures are firmly lower, as SanDisk (SNDK) earnings prompt a tech sector rotation.
Amid reports that a deal to reopen the Strait of Hormuz is imminent, bond yields and oil prices remain elevated, with the 10-year Treasury yield last seen at 4.6% and front-month crude up 1.3%. Meanwhile, initial jobless claims came in at 199,000 for last week, below the 204,000 estimate, while second-quarter productivity rose 1.4%, topping forecasts of 0.6%.

- The Cboe Option Exchange saw roughly 2.5 million call contracts and 1.5 million put contracts traded on Wednesday. The single-session equity put/call ratio dropped to 0.60, while the 21-day moving average remained at 0.58.
- Peloton Interactive Inc (NASDAQ:PTON) is down 13% before the bell, after the company's fiscal fourth-quarter earnings were only in-line with estimates, while paying subscribers fell year-over-year. Peloton stock is set to breach its year-to-date breakeven level today.
- IonQ Inc (NYSE:IONQ) stock is 4% higher ahead of the open, after the quantum computing company's second-quarter revenue exceeded expectations. Full-year guidance was also a hit. IonQ stock is down 11% year to date heading into today, but is up 9.5% this month already.
- The shares of SanDisk Corp (NASDAQ:SNDK) are off by 10% in electronic trading, after margin concerns have four analysts trimming their price targets, despite a top-line beat for the fiscal fourth quarter. SanDisk stock is 468% higher on the year.

Asian Markets Sell Off as Tech Cools
Asian markets finished mostly lower on Thursday as investors grew cautious regarding AI spending. The South Korean Kospi shed 4.6% as chip heavyweights SK Hynix and Samsung Electronics fell sharply, while Hong Kong’s Hang Seng and Japan’s Nikkei dropped 1.5% and 0.9%, respectively. China’s Shanghai Composite bucked the trend, rising 0.6%. Notably, robot maker Yushu Technology (known as Unitree) priced its Shanghai initial public offering (IPO) at 150.8 yuan, or $22.34 per share, as it seeks to become China’s first mainland-listed humanoid robot stock.
European markets, on the other hand, are on the rise today as upbeat earnings lift sentiment. Meanwhile, German industrial orders rose 3.1% in June, topping estimates for a 0.3% increase, while the U.K.'s S&P Global Construction purchasing managers’ index (PMI) climbed to 44.7 in July from 38.4 in June, above economists' expectations of 40.0. At last check, London’s FTSE 100 is up 0.1%, Germany’s DAX is rising 0.2%, and the French CAC 40 sits 0.6% higher.
