Quanterix Cuts 2026 Revenue Outlook as Commercial Challenges Delay Cash-Flow Break-Even

By Fiona Craig | August 10, 2026, 11:04 AM

Quanterix reported 34% second-quarter revenue growth and lower adjusted cash usage, but weaker-than-expected commercial performance prompted a substantial guidance reduction and pushed expected cash-flow break-even into 2027.

Key Investor Takeaways

  • Quanterix (NASDAQ:QTRX) reported Q2 2026 revenue of $32.9 million, up 34% year over year, but management said results fell short of its expectations due to execution challenges and continued market softness.
  • The company cut its 2026 revenue outlook to $142 million-$148 million from $169 million-$174 million, implying a reduction of $21 million-$27 million at the respective ends of the ranges.
  • QTRX now expects cash-flow break-even in 2027 and approximately $80 million of year-end cash, compared with its previous $100 million forecast.
  • Adjusted EBITDA loss improved to $10.0 million from $13.7 million, while adjusted Q2 cash usage fell sharply from the first quarter.
  • Quanterix is reorganising its commercial operations and adding senior leadership as it seeks to improve execution while advancing its Alzheimer’s diagnostics strategy.

Why QTRX Stock Is in Focus

Quanterix (NASDAQ:QTRX) lowered its 2026 financial outlook after second-quarter revenue failed to meet management’s expectations despite increasing 34% year over year to $32.9 million.

The company now expects full-year revenue of $142 million to $148 million, down from its previous forecast of $169 million to $174 million. The revised outlook assumes no underlying improvement in academic or pharmaceutical end markets.

Quanterix also reduced its expected non-GAAP gross margin range to 48%-50% from 49%-53%.

Second-quarter GAAP gross margin declined to 38.5% from 40.9%, although adjusted gross margin improved to 47.9% from 41.8%. Adjusted EBITDA loss narrowed to $10.0 million from $13.7 million.

The company finished June with $96.9 million in cash, cash equivalents, marketable securities and restricted cash. Adjusted Q2 cash usage was $4.0 million after excluding $1.7 million of integration and certain employee separation costs, representing a $10.8 million sequential improvement.

Why This Matters for Investors

The guidance reduction changes the near-term growth and cash-generation narrative for Quanterix. Management attributed the revenue shortfall to both commercial execution challenges and continued market softness and is responding by reorganising teams and strengthening commercial leadership.

The revised cash outlook is another important signal. Quanterix now forecasts approximately $80 million at year-end rather than $100 million and expects to reach cash-flow break-even in 2027. The company nevertheless expects to finish 2026 without debt.

Integration progress provides some offset to those pressures. Quanterix completed the ERP integration associated with its Akoya acquisition, concluding an integration programme that it said generated $85 million in annualised savings.

However, Quanterix also recorded a $26.9 million goodwill impairment associated with Akoya. The non-cash GAAP adjustment does not affect operations or liquidity, but it reflects what the company described as recent circumstances within the business.

Diagnostics remains a strategic growth focus. Quanterix is investing in blood-based Alzheimer’s testing, including Lucent AD Complete, and said qualifying testing became eligible for coverage under Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield medical policies beginning July 1 when medical necessity requirements are satisfied.

The company is also targeting completion of three clinical utility studies and further development of its FDA roadmap for Alzheimer’s disease testing.

What to Watch Next

Commercial execution will be critical after the guidance reset. Investors may watch whether the reorganised sales operation and new leadership can stabilise revenue performance during the second half, particularly given that the updated outlook assumes no improvement in academic or pharmaceutical markets.

Progress toward the revised 2027 cash-flow break-even target, year-end cash of approximately $80 million and the 48%-50% adjusted gross margin target will also provide measures of operating discipline.

On the diagnostics side, completion of the three Alzheimer’s clinical utility studies, further insurance coverage and progress on the FDA roadmap could help determine whether Quanterix can build a stronger diagnostics growth engine alongside its research tools business.
