Rocket Lab Corp (NASDAQ:RKLB) stock is 1.4% lower to trade at $81.67 this afternoon, set to snap a seven-day winning streak. Since a May 27 record high of $150.99, the satellite stock has shed 46.3%. Where RKLB goes next will depend largely on the company's second-quarter earnings report, due out after the close tonight.

Rocket Lab stock has finished five of its last eight post-earnings sessions higher, including a 34.5% pop in May, and averages a 12.1% shift regardless of direction. This time around, traders are expecting a larger-than-usual 16.9% swing.

The shares traded as low as $58.20 in late July, but have reclaimed their 320-day moving average. As with most high beta growth names, short interest has been building, up 34.2% during the past two reporting periods, accounting for 7.7% of the stock's available float.

Options are an intriguing route, as the equity sports a Schaeffer's Volatility Scorecards (SVS) reading of 95 out of 100, suggesting RKLB has realized higher volatility than its options have priced in over the past 12 months.
