Sono-Tek shares rise after record $3.6 million production line order

Sono-Tek Corporation (NASDAQ:SOTK) shares rose 3.9% in premarket trading on Tuesday after the company secured a $3.6 million purchase order for an advanced manufacturing line designed for medical diagnostic device production.

The contract is the largest single integrated production line order in Sono-Tek’s history. While the company has previously received orders with greater overall values, those involved multiple separate systems rather than one integrated line.

The new system is expected to ship during fiscal 2028.

Existing customer moves into high-volume manufacturing

The order came from an existing Sono-Tek customer that had already developed and validated its coating process using the company’s earlier platforms.

According to Sono-Tek, the latest investment represents the customer’s progression from process development into high-volume manufacturing.

The production line will combine Sono-Tek’s ultrasonic coating technology with additional process capabilities and advanced automation, allowing the customer to scale its validated coating process for larger manufacturing volumes.

The same customer previously purchased an $820,000 production system from Sono-Tek before committing to the new $3.6 million line.

Record contract highlights Sono-Tek’s customer expansion model

Sono-Tek said the progression illustrates its strategy of supporting customers through successive stages of development, beginning with process validation and potentially expanding into larger and more complex manufacturing systems.

“This record production line order represents an important milestone for Sono-Tek and marks a major step forward in our relationship with this customer. After successfully developing and validating its process using our earlier coating platforms, the customer is now moving to a substantially larger and more sophisticated automated manufacturing line designed for high-volume production,” said Steve Harshbarger, President and CEO of Sono-Tek.

The size of the latest order compared with the customer’s previous $820,000 system highlights the potential revenue opportunity when customers successfully move from development work into commercial-scale production.

Medical device coating remains a key growth market

Sono-Tek develops and manufactures ultrasonic coating systems, with medical device coating forming an important part of its growth strategy.

For investors, the $3.6 million contract provides evidence of an existing customer advancing into a larger production phase using Sono-Tek technology. However, with shipment scheduled for fiscal 2028, the timing of revenue recognition from the order remains an important consideration.

The next point to watch will be whether Sono-Tek can replicate this development-to-production progression with other customers and convert additional validated applications into larger automated manufacturing system orders.
