Robinhood (NASDAQ:HOOD) shares rose nearly 4.9% in pre-market trading on Friday as renewed optimism over US cryptocurrency regulation fuelled buying across digital asset-related stocks.
The latest catalyst came after President Donald Trump publicly urged Congress to approve the Clarity Act, proposed legislation designed to establish a clearer regulatory framework for digital assets, including the classification of most cryptocurrencies as commodities and the division of oversight responsibilities between the SEC and CFTC.
Trump support adds momentum to crypto regulation push
Trump’s comments followed his August 19 meeting with cryptocurrency industry executives at the White House, reinforcing expectations that the administration could support a more clearly defined and accommodating regulatory environment for digital assets.
Greater regulatory certainty could prove particularly significant for companies such as Robinhood, which has expanded beyond traditional brokerage services into cryptocurrency trading and other blockchain-related products.
The positive reaction was visible across the sector, with Coinbase (NASDAQ:COIN) also posting a strong pre-market advance following the latest developments surrounding the Clarity Act.
The broader rally suggests investors are reassessing the prospects of crypto-focused and crypto-adjacent financial platforms rather than responding solely to company-specific developments at Robinhood.
Robinhood pushes case for tokenized stock trading
Robinhood’s positioning in tokenized equities has provided another source of investor interest.
Chief Executive Vlad Tenev published a widely circulated article on August 18 calling for US policymakers to modernise securities regulations to permit blockchain-based versions of stocks to trade domestically.
Tenev argued that the United States risks losing ground to international markets, where tokenized equity trading volume has reportedly reached $9 billion during 2026, representing growth of more than 800% since the beginning of the year.
The SEC is also reportedly developing an “innovation exemption” that could allow approved trading platforms to offer tokenized equities around the clock.
Such a framework could create a significant opportunity for Robinhood given its existing digital asset products and its efforts to expand the use of blockchain technology within traditional financial markets.
Goldman Sachs raises Robinhood price target
Wall Street sentiment has added further support to the shares. Goldman Sachs increased its price target for Robinhood to $123 while maintaining a Buy rating.
The broader analyst consensus stands at approximately $124.73 with an overweight stance, reflecting continued expectations for growth across Robinhood’s brokerage and cryptocurrency businesses.
The company’s latest quarterly performance has also provided fundamental support. Revenue increased 32.5%, while earnings exceeded expectations, strengthening the argument that the recent share-price momentum is being supported by both operating growth and favourable industry developments.
Robinhood outperforms broader US market
The rally in Robinhood shares was substantially stronger than gains across the wider US equity market. The S&P 500 and Dow were both up around 0.3%, while the Nasdaq advanced 0.5%.
Robinhood’s nearly 4.9% pre-market gain therefore points primarily to crypto-sector and company-specific catalysts rather than the broader market advance.
The combination of Trump’s endorsement of the Clarity Act, Tenev’s push for tokenized equities, expectations of potential SEC regulatory changes and Goldman Sachs’ higher price target has strengthened the near-term investment narrative surrounding Robinhood ahead of Friday’s opening bell.
