Stock futures are mixed to start the holiday-shortened week, as rising oil prices and bond yields weigh on investor sentiment. Futures on the Dow Jones Industrial Average (DJI) are down more than 390 points, while the S&P 500 Index (SPX) is modestly lower, and the Nasdaq-100 Index (NDX) sits moderately higher.

Brent crude is trading at six-week highs amid renewed U.S.-Iran tensions, fueling inflation concerns as prices near $100 per barrel. Government bond yields are climbing in response, with several overseas yields hitting multi-year highs. Trade tensions are in focus as well, with Canada's retaliatory tariffs on roughly $20 billion worth of U.S. goods taking effect today.

  1. The Cboe Option Exchange saw roughly 3.1 million call contracts and 1.8 million put contracts traded on Friday. The single-session equity put/call ratio rose to 0.58, while the 21-day moving average remained at 0.59. 
  2. Intel Corp (NASDAQ:INTC) is up 4.5% premarket, after U.S. President Donald Trump posted an AI-generated trading image on Truth Social tracking the shares, alongside a claim of "hundred of billions" made for the U.S. Year to date, Intel stock is up 159.6% heading into today. The equity tends to outperform this month, historically. 
  3. Roivant Sciences Ltd (NASDAQ:ROIV) is up 19.9% before the bell, after the healthcare name posted upbeat Phase 2 trial results for subsidiary Pulmovant’s mosliciguat, a treatment for pulmonary hypertension with interstitial lung disease. Since the start of the year, ROIV is up 61%. 
  4. Boston Scientific Corp (NYSE:BSX) is down 2.3% in electronic trading, after the biotech company said it likely won't meet its 2026 profit targets due to a recent cyberattack. BSX is down 49.9% year to date.

European Bond Yields Rise

Asian markets finished mostly lower today, as investors monitor rising crude prices and Middle East tensions. China's exports rose 25% year-over-year in August, matching forecasts, while imports grew 28.2%, missing the expected 30% increase. In Japan, real wages data showed a 2.4% increase for July, marking the biggest surge since May 2021. Japan’s Nikkei fell 1.7%, Hong Kong’s Hang Seng lost 0.4%, South Korea’s Kospi shed 0.6%, and China’s Shanghai Composite bucked the trend with a 0.2% rise.

European stocks are mixed at last glance, struggling to overcome a selloff by Novartis (NVS), after the drugmaker shared back-to-back failed trial data. In Germany, exports data showed an unexpected 0.8% pullback month-on-month in July, the first drop in five months. Meanwhile, the French 30-year government bond yield reached its highest level since April 2008, while the yield on Germany’s 10-year bund hit its highest since early 2011. At last check, the region’s DAX has shed 0.06% in response. London’s FTSE 100 is up 0.1%, while France’s CAC 40 sits flat at 0.04%.
