England Hikes Interest Rates

Asian stocks finished mixed on Thursday as investors continued to assess the market implications of this week's sweeping Democratic victories in the U.S. midterm elections. Japan’s Nikkei slid 1.8% and South Korea’s Kospi plunged 5.3%, while Hong Kong’s Hang Seng and China’s Shanghai Composite bucked the trend with gains of 3.7% and 0.1%, respectively.

European markets are trending higher as investors react to the Bank of England’s (BoE) decision to raise interest rates by 25 basis points to 4%, its first hike since 2023. Meanwhile, German industrial production rose 4.4% month over month in September, falling short of expectations. At last check, London’s FTSE 100 is up 0.6%, after earlier touching a three-month high ahead of the BoE decision. France’s CAC 40 and Germany’s DAX have added 0.8% and 0.6%, respectively.
