Meta Platforms (NASDAQ:META) experienced service disruptions affecting Facebook and Instagram in the United States on Monday, with thousands of users reporting difficulties accessing the social media platforms.
According to outage monitoring website Downdetector, Facebook had received more than 17,000 reports of service problems by 3:11 a.m. on Monday, while Instagram had recorded more than 5,000 reports.
Downdetector collects reports submitted by users to identify potential disruptions affecting online services.
Cause of Disruptions Remains Unknown
The cause of the reported outages was not immediately clear, and the available information did not establish how many users were affected or when normal service would be restored.
Downdetector’s figures reflect the number of reports submitted rather than the total number of people experiencing problems. The reported totals can also fluctuate depending on how many users choose to register an issue.
