Micron Technology Shares Edge Lower Ahead of Fiscal Q4 Earnings

By Fiona Craig | September 23, 2026, 8:50 AM

Micron Technology (NASDAQ:MU) shares fell 0.3% in pre-market trading, following a four-session advance that had contributed to a gain of approximately 14% during September.

The shares were trading at $1,092.99 ahead of Micron’s fiscal fourth-quarter 2026 earnings release, scheduled for September 30.

Wall Street consensus estimates cited in the source call for quarterly revenue of approximately $50.45 billion and earnings per share of around $31.

Michael Burry Increases Short Position in Micron

The latest trading also follows the disclosure of an increased short position in Micron by investor Michael Burry, alongside short positions in other companies associated with artificial intelligence.

Burry has argued that valuations among memory-chip companies have moved ahead of underlying fundamentals and has raised the possibility of a cyclical reversal. These views represent Burry’s assessment of the sector.

Meanwhile, Samsung has announced plans to expand its 4-nanometre foundry capacity to support production of base dies for HBM4 high-bandwidth memory.

According to the source, Samsung is allocating more than half of the relevant capacity to HBM4 base-die production. The development comes as semiconductor manufacturers increase investment in memory products used in AI computing infrastructure.

Analysts Assess Memory Market Outlook

Broader U.S. equity markets showed limited movement, with the Nasdaq down approximately 0.04% and the S&P 500 up around 0.06% at the time referenced.

Analyst sentiment towards Micron remains positive overall, according to the source, with a consensus Buy rating and an average price target above the company’s current share price.

Some analysts have reduced their forecasts in recent weeks, however, citing factors including tariff uncertainty and export controls.

Investors are now awaiting Micron’s September 30 results for further information on its financial performance and outlook, including developments in demand for memory products used in AI applications.
