IBM Adds Swift Ledger Integration and On-Premises Option to Digital Asset Haven

By Fiona Craig | September 24, 2026, 6:43 AM

IBM (NYSE:IBM) announced two beta capabilities for its Digital Asset Haven platform on September 24, adding connectivity to Swift’s blockchain-based shared ledger and an on-premises deployment option for financial institutions.

The new capabilities are intended to give institutions additional options for managing tokenized deposits and other digital assets while using existing financial messaging standards or infrastructure located within their own data centres.

Swift Integration Uses ISO 20022 Messaging

IBM’s new ISO 20022 Messaging Adapter allows Digital Asset Haven clients to instruct tokenized deposit transactions through Swift’s shared ledger using standard ISO 20022 messages.

Swift connects approximately 12,500 financial institutions across more than 200 markets, according to the information provided.

Its shared ledger was announced at Sibos 2025 and developed with participation from more than 40 financial institutions. The initiative moved from its initial concept to activation over a nine-month period.

Seventeen institutions are currently participating in pilots involving tokenized deposit transactions, according to the information supplied.

The integration remains in beta and does not indicate broader commercial adoption of the technology.

On-Premises Deployment Removes Public Cloud Dependency

IBM also introduced a beta on-premises deployment option for Digital Asset Haven.

The configuration allows organisations to manage digital assets, including stablecoins and tokenized deposits, within their own data centres using IBM Z and IBM LinuxONE hardware without relying on public cloud infrastructure.

IBM said the on-premises deployment is designed to use the same architecture, application programming interfaces and workflows as the platform’s existing software-as-a-service and hybrid configurations.

The company said security features include IBM Crypto Express hardware security modules, structured key ceremonies with auditable documentation intended to support regulatory requirements, and compatibility with IBM Offline Signing Orchestrator for cold-storage operations.

These security and compliance capabilities are based on IBM’s description of the platform and do not by themselves establish compliance with any particular institution’s regulatory obligations.

IBM Expands Digital Asset Haven Deployment Options

IBM initially launched the SaaS and hybrid deployment versions of Digital Asset Haven in October 2025.

The company said banking and payments organisations across several continents have since begun implementing digital asset use cases using the platform.

“As institutions modernize payments and prepare for a future of always-on transactions, they need infrastructure that combines innovation with the security, resiliency, and regulatory compliance requirements of regulated banking,” said Tom McPherson, General Manager of IBM Z and LinuxONE.

McPherson’s comments represent IBM’s assessment of the infrastructure requirements facing regulated financial institutions.

According to J.P. Morgan Payments data cited in the announcement, 93% of financial institutions are currently modernising their payments infrastructure.
