Britain's 30-Year Yield Hits 28-Year High

Asian markets kicked off October with a healthy session, led by a surge in chip stocks. South Korean exports rose 83.5% for September, blowing past expectations of 62%, with help from semiconductor shipping. China was also in focus, after reports suggested the region’s refiners have suspended crude exports for October. For the session, Japan’s Nikkei rose 3.3%, Hong Kong’s Hang Seng added 0.4%, China’s Shanghai Composite tacked on 0.3%, and South Korea’s Kospi jumped 2%.

Sentiment is less positive across the pond, with European markets struggling to start a new quarter as sliding household goods stocks and surging bond yields weigh. France’s 10-year bond yield is nearing 5%, its highest level since 2002, while Britain’s 30-year yield topped 6% for the first time since 1998. The FTSE 100 in London is sliding 1.1%, France’s CAC 40 has lost 0.8%, and Germany’s DAX has shed 0.2% at last check.
