Navitas and Microchip Develop 800V Power Reference Design for AI Data Centres

By Fiona Craig | October 05, 2026, 8:53 AM

Navitas Semiconductor (NASDAQ:NVTS) and Microchip Technology (NASDAQ:MCHP) have jointly developed an 800V DC-to-6V DC reference design for AI data centre rack power applications, the companies announced on October 5, 2026.

The platform combines Microchip’s dsPIC33AK Digital Signal Controllers and TA100 CryptoAuthentication device with Navitas’ GaNFast gallium nitride power devices.

The design is aligned with the Open Compute Project 800V DC standard and combines 800V DC-to-50V DC and 50V DC-to-6V DC conversion stages within a single converter.

Design Targets 96% Peak Efficiency

According to the companies, the reference platform targets peak efficiency of up to 96% at full load, a switching frequency of 1 MHz and power density of 2,100 watts per cubic inch.

The primary side uses 16 Navitas NV6034 650V GaNFast FETs in a stacked half-bridge topology.

Microchip’s dsPIC33AK256MPS306 controller family includes a 200 MHz 32-bit core, 78-picosecond high-resolution pulse-width modulators and 12-bit analogue-to-digital converters operating at up to 40 MSPS.

The controllers also support post-quantum cryptography algorithms from the Commercial National Security Algorithm Suite 2.0.

Microchip’s TA100 CryptoAuthentication device provides hardware-based security functions including secure boot, message authentication code generation, trusted firmware updates and Transport Layer Security support.

“As the ecosystem moves toward higher-voltage rack power systems, developers need proven building blocks that help reduce design risk and accelerate innovation,” said Joe Thomsen, corporate vice president of Microchip’s digital signal controller business unit.

Reference Platform to Be Showcased in October

The companies plan to showcase the solution at Microchip’s OCP Event in San Jose, California, scheduled for October 12 to 15, 2026.

The reference design will be made available with a reference board, software and supporting documentation.
