Trinity Industries Statement on Antidumping and Countervailing Duty Petition Filed Against Railway Tank Car Imports from Mexico

By Business Wire | October 05, 2026, 4:05 PM

DALLAS--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Trinity Industries, Inc. (NYSE: TRN) (“Trinity”), a leading provider of railcar products and services across North America, is aware of and will fully defend against the antidumping and countervailing duty petition filed by UTLX Manufacturing LLC (“UTLX”), a wholly owned subsidiary of Berkshire Hathaway, Inc. UTLX filed its petition with the U.S. Department of Commerce and the U.S. International Trade Commission targeting imports of railway tank cars from Mexico.

Trinity is carefully reviewing the petition with its legal and trade counsel and intends to participate fully and actively in both the Department of Commerce and ITC proceedings. Trinity will vigorously defend its position at every stage of this process. Trinity has produced more than 73,000 tank cars in the United States over the last 15 years. Trinity employs more than 2,500 U.S.-based employees supporting the tank car industry, between its Longview, Texas manufacturing facility and maintenance shops across the country, serving more than 800 U.S.-based shippers. Trinity’s Monclova, Mexico facility has also been an integral part of its North American manufacturing network since 1998, serving customer demand on both sides of the border as part of a fully integrated supply chain. Further, Trinity is a significant purchaser of American-made steel, which it ships to its facilities in Mexico for incorporation into the tank cars that UTLX alleges to be dumped and subsidized.

Trinity’s North American manufacturing operations — employing thousands of workers in the United States and Mexico — play an essential and irreplaceable role in supporting American shippers, American commerce, and the long-term competitiveness of the North American freight rail network. Trinity will cooperate fully with Commerce and the ITC and is committed to a fair and complete assessment of the facts. Trinity believes the facts, when fully examined, will demonstrate that its operations represent legitimate, high-quality manufacturing and that the petition is not supported by the evidence or the law.
