Del Monte Meets Q3 Earnings Estimates as Revenue Misses Forecasts Despite 7.2% Growth

By Fiona Craig | October 28, 2026, 7:41 AM

Del Monte Corporation (NYSE:DMC) reported third-quarter 2026 adjusted earnings in line with analyst expectations on Wednesday, although revenue fell short of forecasts. The company recorded higher sales and improved gross margins following its acquisition of Del Monte Foods, while its banana operations faced increased production costs and adverse weather conditions.

Shares were unchanged in after-hours trading following the announcement.

The company reported adjusted earnings per share of $0.50, matching the consensus estimate. Revenue reached $1.10 billion, below analysts’ expectations of $1.16 billion, but increased 7.2% from $1.02 billion in the corresponding quarter of 2025.

Del Monte Foods Acquisition Supports Revenue and Margins

The quarterly results included contributions from Del Monte Foods, which Del Monte acquired in March 2026.

The acquisition expanded the company’s prepared foods operations, providing additional revenue and a higher-margin business alongside its existing fresh produce activities.

However, the contribution from the acquired business was partially offset by lower volumes and adverse foreign exchange movements in parts of the fresh produce portfolio.

Gross profit increased 27.0% year over year to $102.6 million, while the gross profit margin improved by 150 basis points to 9.4%.

The Prepared Foods segment recorded a gross margin of 17.5%, contributing to the improvement in group profitability.

The results indicate that the acquired operations are changing Del Monte’s revenue mix, although the company continues to manage operational pressures in its established businesses.

Management Highlights Progress in Del Monte Foods Integration

Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Mohammad Abu-Ghazaleh said the latest results demonstrated the contribution of the expanded product portfolio.

“Our third-quarter results provide clear evidence of the strategic and financial value of our expanded Del Monte portfolio,” Abu-Ghazaleh said.

“Just six months into the integration of Del Monte Foods, the Prepared Foods segment is already adding scale, attractive margins and greater balance to our earnings profile.”

The comments followed the first six months of integration activity after the March acquisition.

The Prepared Foods segment’s 17.5% gross margin was an important factor in the company’s overall margin expansion, helping offset weaker performance elsewhere in the business.

Banana Operations Report Loss Following Higher Production Costs

Del Monte’s Bananas segment recorded a gross loss of $2.7 million in the third quarter, compared with a gross profit of $4.6 million in the corresponding period last year.

The deterioration reflected approximately $6.1 million in additional production expenses associated with measures to prevent Black Sigatoka, a fungal disease affecting banana crops.

These costs followed heavy rainfall in Costa Rica linked to El Niño weather conditions.

The additional spending affected profitability in the segment, despite the improvement in consolidated gross profit.

The figures illustrate the operational challenges facing Del Monte’s fresh produce activities, where agricultural conditions and disease prevention requirements can influence production costs.

Operating Cash Flow Declines as Working Capital Requirements Increase

Del Monte reported net cash provided by operating activities of $53.1 million for the first nine months of 2026, compared with $234.2 million during the equivalent period of 2025.

The reduction reflected investments in inventory and working capital required to support the expanded business following the Del Monte Foods acquisition.

Higher working capital requirements can affect cash generation as companies increase inventory holdings and integrate additional operations.

The difference between the two periods was substantial, with operating cash inflows declining by $181.1 million year over year.

The company attributed the movement to the financing needs of its larger operating structure.

Long-Term Debt Rises Following Acquisition Financing

Long-term debt stood at $482.5 million as of September 25, 2026, compared with $173.0 million at the end of 2025.

The increase of $309.5 million primarily reflected financing associated with the acquisition of Del Monte Foods.

The higher debt balance represents a change in the company’s financial position following the expansion of its business.

Alongside the increased borrowing, Del Monte reported lower operating cash flow during the first nine months of the year, reflecting additional investment in working capital.

The company’s future financial performance will therefore depend partly on the contribution of the acquired operations and the cash requirements associated with the expanded portfolio.

Del Monte Declares Quarterly Dividend

Del Monte declared a quarterly cash dividend of $0.30 per share, payable on December 4, 2026.

The dividend announcement accompanied results showing improved consolidated gross margins and higher year-over-year revenue, despite the shortfall against analysts’ sales expectations.

The payment forms part of the company’s shareholder distributions while it continues integrating Del Monte Foods and managing its expanded operations.

Outlook for Del Monte

Del Monte’s third-quarter results showed adjusted earnings per share of $0.50, in line with expectations, while revenue of $1.10 billion fell below the $1.16 billion consensus forecast.

Sales increased 7.2% year over year, and gross profit rose 27.0% to $102.6 million, supported by the addition of the Prepared Foods business.

The company’s gross margin improved to 9.4%, although its Bananas segment reported a $2.7 million gross loss following additional production costs in Costa Rica.

Operating cash flow declined to $53.1 million for the first nine months of 2026, while long-term debt increased to $482.5 million following acquisition financing.

The results highlight the contribution of Del Monte Foods to the company’s profitability alongside the continuing financial and operational requirements of integrating the acquired business.
