U.S. GoldMining Advances Alaska Access Road Permitting as Whistler Exploration Continues

By Fiona Craig | November 02, 2026, 8:15 AM

U.S. GoldMining Inc. (NASDAQ:USGO) has reported progress on the permitting process for the West Susitna Access Project (WSAP), a proposed road development in Alaska that could improve access to the company’s Whistler Gold-Copper Project and connect the mineral resource area with existing infrastructure near Anchorage.

The state-led infrastructure initiative has entered a new stage of federal regulatory review following the submission of a permit application by the Alaska Industrial Development and Export Authority (AIDEA).

The company also highlighted federal support for regional transportation infrastructure, recent permitting developments at a neighbouring mining project and the completion of its 2026 exploration drilling programme at Whistler.

West Susitna Access Project Enters Federal Permit Review

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) issued a public notice on September 25, 2026, concerning AIDEA’s permit application for the West Susitna Access Project.

The application was submitted under Section 404 of the Clean Water Act, which governs certain activities involving the discharge of dredged or fill material into regulated waters.

The public consultation period has now concluded, and the USACE is evaluating the application as part of the federal permitting process.

The proposed road would provide a transportation connection between the West Susitna region and existing infrastructure near Anchorage, potentially improving access to mineral development projects, including U.S. GoldMining’s Whistler property.

Although the application has advanced to the evaluation stage, the announcement did not indicate that final federal approval has been granted.

Federal Emergency Procedures Could Accelerate Permitting

U.S. GoldMining reported that the USACE has determined the WSAP permit application qualifies for special emergency processing procedures under Executive Order 14156.

The executive order declares a national energy emergency and provides a framework for certain expedited federal procedures.

According to the company, the designation is expected to shorten the normal processing timetable for the road project’s permit application.

The WSAP has also been identified as a critical minerals project under Executive Order 14241.

Separately, Alaska’s governor formally requested federal assistance for the project under Executive Order 14153.

These developments indicate federal and state-level attention to the proposed transportation corridor and its potential role in supporting resource development.

However, the company did not provide a revised permitting timetable or specify when a final decision from the USACE might be expected.

Proposed Road Would Extend 78.5 Miles Across West Susitna

The West Susitna Access Project involves the development of a 78.5-mile gravel road designed to accommodate both public and industrial traffic throughout the year.

The proposed route would connect the West Susitna region with existing transportation infrastructure near Anchorage.

For U.S. GoldMining, the project could provide an important infrastructure link to its Whistler Gold-Copper Project.

Improved road access could support future exploration activities and potentially facilitate the movement of personnel, equipment and supplies.

The proposed road is intended to serve broader regional transportation requirements rather than exclusively supporting the Whistler property.

The announcement did not provide a construction start date, completion schedule or updated total development cost for the WSAP.

Port MacKenzie Rail Extension Receives $249 Million Federal Award

U.S. GoldMining also highlighted a separate transportation infrastructure development involving the Port MacKenzie rail extension.

According to an October 19, 2026, announcement from the Alaska Railroad Corporation, the U.S. Department of Transportation awarded $249 million towards completing a 32-mile extension of the rail network.

AIDEA has committed up to $34 million in matching funds for the project.

The rail extension represents another infrastructure investment in the region, alongside the proposed West Susitna road development.

Together, the projects could contribute to improved transportation connections for communities and industrial activities in south-central Alaska.

However, the rail funding announcement is separate from the WSAP permitting process and does not constitute approval or financing for construction of the proposed access road.

Nearby Nova Minerals Project Receives Alaska Permits

The company also referred to recent regulatory developments involving Nova Minerals Corp., which operates the Estelle Gold and Critical Minerals Project adjacent to U.S. GoldMining’s Whistler property.

According to an October 27, 2026, announcement from Nova Minerals, the company received final permits from the Alaska Department of Natural Resources for its antimony project.

The permits were issued approximately three months after the applications were submitted.

U.S. GoldMining highlighted the development as an example of permitting activity involving mineral projects in the region.

However, Nova Minerals’ approvals relate to a separate project and regulatory process.

The permitting timeline for Estelle does not establish when approvals for the WSAP or any future Whistler development activities might be obtained.

Whistler Exploration Programme Completes 7,493 Metres of Drilling

Alongside the infrastructure developments, U.S. GoldMining confirmed the completion of its 2026 exploration field season at the Whistler Gold-Copper Project.

The company completed 7,493 metres of exploratory core drilling during the programme.

Core drilling is used to obtain geological samples from beneath the surface, allowing exploration teams to assess mineralisation and improve their understanding of a project’s geological characteristics.

The company expects to release results from the completed drilling programme in the coming weeks.

These results could provide further information about the mineralisation encountered during the 2026 exploration campaign.

U.S. GoldMining did not disclose assay results or new mineral resource estimates in the infrastructure update.

Infrastructure Developments Could Support Whistler’s Long-Term Potential

The progress reported on the West Susitna Access Project forms part of broader infrastructure and resource development activity in Alaska.

For U.S. GoldMining, improved transportation access could become an important consideration in the long-term development of the Whistler Gold-Copper Project.

The proposed 78.5-mile road would provide a year-round transportation corridor, while the separate Port MacKenzie rail extension could contribute to regional infrastructure improvements.

Federal emergency processing procedures and critical minerals designations may also influence the regulatory timetable for the WSAP.

Nevertheless, the road project remains subject to permitting requirements, and its eventual construction has not been confirmed.

Any potential benefits to Whistler will depend on the completion of the necessary approvals and the development of the proposed infrastructure.

U.S. GoldMining Outlook Focuses on Permit Decisions and Drilling Results

U.S. GoldMining’s latest update highlights two areas of potential importance for the Whistler Gold-Copper Project: progress on regional transportation infrastructure and continuing mineral exploration.

The WSAP permit application is currently under USACE evaluation following the closure of the public comment period.

The project has also received federal designations that could support a faster regulatory review, although no final approval timetable has been announced.

Meanwhile, the company’s completed 7,493-metre drilling programme is expected to generate exploration results in the coming weeks.

Investors will be monitoring the outcome of the WSAP permitting process, further developments involving regional infrastructure and the forthcoming Whistler drilling results.

While the infrastructure initiatives could improve the project’s long-term accessibility, the timing and extent of any commercial benefits remain uncertain.
