Local programs strengthen support systems for residents in Los Angeles, San Joaquin, and Stanislaus Counties

SACRAMENTO, Calif., July 30, 2025 /PRNewswire/ -- Health Net, one of California's most experienced Medi-Cal managed care health plans and a company of Centene Corporation (NYSE: CNC), recently announced it awarded $295,000 in grants to organizations dedicated to improving the quality of life for older adults.

"As we age, our health journeys naturally change. Challenges like chronic illness, limited mobility, or feelings of isolation can begin to surface," shared Rachael Rudd, senior vice president, plan product for Health Net. "That's why it's so important to ensure older adults have access to care, preventive tools, and supportive community programs—because when people feel seen, supported, and empowered, they can live with greater independence and dignity."

Grant recipients include:

  • A Senior Connection (San Joaquin/Stanislaus County) – The grant will support the hiring and allocation of personnel to facilitate the rollout and coordination of the state's Community Supports benefit.
  • NewGen Administrative Services (Los Angeles County) – The grant supports the addition of new bedside dialysis units to enhance patient comfort, reduce the risk of complications associated with travel to off-site dialysis centers and improve overall health outcomes.
  • ONEgeneration (Los Angeles County) – The grant focuses on the expansion of mental and behavioral health services, ensuring older adults, whether active or homebound, have assistance to enroll and access relevant resources.
  • St. Barnabas Senior Services (Los Angeles County) – The grant assists with an upgrade to kitchen infrastructure, ensuring that older adults who use their services will have access to healthy and culturally-centered meals.
  • WISE & Healthy Aging (Los Angeles County) – The grant aims to help Skilled Nursing Facility (SNF) representatives and emergency services staff to work collaboratively and effectively, ultimately reducing the amount of unnecessary 911 calls across SNF resident populations.

"Thank you to Health Net for investing in programs that recognize the full dignity of older adults — addressing their physical, mental, and emotional well-being," said Sen. Anna Caballero. "These grants are a testament to the power of public-private partnerships to strengthen our communities and ensure that seniors in the Central Valley and beyond have the support they need to live healthy, connected lives."

These partnerships are part of Health Net's commitment to transforming the health of the community, one person at a time. The organization is committed to a local approach to support the most vulnerable members they serve, including older adults. From 2017 to 2024, Health Net committed more than $158 million in funding to community-based organizations.

"All older adults, whether active or homebound, deserve access to mental and behavioral health services that support them in their aging journey," said Jenna Hauss, MSW, president & CEO of ONEgeneration. "With the support from Health Net, we're fostering a community where aging with dignity, support and resilience is not just a goal but a reality."

"Through Health Net's support, we can strengthen the collaboration between Skilled Nursing Facility representatives and emergency services, ensuring residents receive timely care while reducing unnecessary 911 calls," said Rachel Tate, MSW, vice president, ombudsman services at Wise & Healthy Aging. "This work underscores our shared commitment to creating safer and healthier environments for aging populations."
