On August 8, 2025, Snowflake Inc. (NYSE:SNOW) launched the public preview of Snowpark Connect for Spark. This new architecture allows Apache Spark code to run directly in Snowflake warehouses.

Snowflake Inc. (NYSE:SNOW) launched Snowpark Connect to address long-standing challenges associated with Spark Connector, including costly data movement, latency, and governance issues. It addresses the issues by executing workloads within Snowflake itself and eliminating the complexity of managing separate Spark clusters while supporting Spark DataFrame, Spark SQL, and UDFs.

With this launch, Snowflake Inc. (NYSE:SNOW) delivers up to 5.6x faster performance and 41% cost savings compared to managed Spark services. Snowpark Connect is currently limited to Python and Spark 3.5.x, Snowflake is working on Java and Scala support to expand functionality.
