On November 25, 2025, Reuters disclosed that Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company Limited (NYSE:TSM) had sued Wei-Jen Lo, a former senior vice president who had recently joined Intel, in Taiwan’s Intellectual Property and Commercial Court. The conditions of Lo’s employment contract, the non-compete agreement he signed, and statutes, including the Trade Secrets Act, are the basis for the complaint, according to Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company Limited (NYSE:TSM). The company also said that there is a “high probability” that Lo will use, leak, reveal, or transfer the firm’s trade secrets and private information to Intel, necessitating legal action. The ministry further stated that it will assist in establishing whether the case contains violations of the National Security Act or infringement of core technologies. Authorities are also looking into Lo following accusations that he may have given advanced technical data to Intel.

Lo contributed to the mass production of 5-nm, 3-nm, and 2-nm chips during his 21 years at the company. He had previously worked for Intel for eighteen years.

Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company Limited (NYSE:TSM) is the world’s largest dedicated contract chip producer, with a mid-60% market share in 2024. It uses its own IC designs to create integrated circuits for customers. The global shift of semiconductor companies from integrated device manufacturers to fabless designers has long benefited the firm.

The firm bears the expenses and capital investments of operating factories in a highly volatile market, just like any other foundry, for its clients. Foundries frequently build excess capacity during periods of high demand, which can result in underutilization during downturns, reducing profitability.
