Tesla (NASDAQ:TSLA) recorded differing registration trends across several European markets in August, with year-over-year increases in France and Denmark and declines in Norway and Sweden.
New Tesla vehicle registrations, which can be used as an indicator of sales, increased 279% from a year earlier in France and 104% in Denmark, according to figures from French automotive industry body PFA and Denmark’s bilstatistik.dk.
In contrast, registrations declined 79% year over year in Norway and 41% in Sweden, according to data from OFV and Mobility Sweden.
France and Denmark record year-over-year increases
France recorded the largest percentage increase among the markets included in the latest data, with Tesla registrations nearly quadrupling from the same month a year earlier.
Denmark also reported a year-over-year increase, with registrations more than doubling in August.
The figures contrasted with Norway, where Tesla registrations fell 79%, while Sweden recorded a 41% decline compared with August of the previous year.
European sales recover following two annual declines
Tesla’s European sales have recovered so far this year following two consecutive years of annual declines.
The recovery has coincided with easier year-over-year comparisons, higher fuel prices, government incentives and increased consumer interest in electric vehicles.
The August figures available so far indicate that Tesla’s performance continues to vary between individual European markets.
UK and German registration data due later this week
Registration figures from Britain and Germany, Europe’s two largest automotive markets, are scheduled for release later this week.
Those figures will provide additional data on Tesla’s August performance across the European market.
