By Fiona Craig | September 02, 2026, 10:10 AM

Caterpillar Inc. (NYSE:CAT) announced a collaboration with FieldAI focused on deploying artificial intelligence, robotics and digital twin technology across industrial jobsites and manufacturing facilities.

The collaboration combines Caterpillar’s operational data and engineering capabilities with FieldAI’s robot-agnostic autonomy software and foundation models.

According to Caterpillar, initial applications include autonomous inspections, real-time digital twins of facilities, situational awareness tools and the use of simulation and automation to support operational optimisation.

Collaboration Uses Nvidia Computing and Omniverse Technology

The companies are using Nvidia accelerated computing and Nvidia Omniverse technologies to develop high-fidelity digital twins based on operational data.

Digital twins provide virtual representations of physical facilities and processes that can be used for simulation and operational analysis.

The supplied information does not provide performance results from the collaboration or quantify potential efficiency improvements, cost savings or financial contributions.

“The future of our industries will be shaped by how effectively we combine human expertise with AI-powered machines,” said Jaime Mineart, Caterpillar chief technology officer.

Caterpillar Targets Industrial Applications

John Tuntland, Caterpillar senior vice president of Integrated Components Division, said the technologies are intended to provide teams with greater visibility into facility operations and support faster responses to changing conditions.

FieldAI founder and Chief Executive Officer Ali Agha said the company has deployments across hundreds of sites worldwide.

According to Agha, the Caterpillar collaboration is focused on heavy industrial environments where conventional automation can face limitations.

These statements represent the companies’ assessments of the technology and its potential applications. The supplied information does not provide independently established measures of its performance in Caterpillar operations.

FieldAI Has Raised More Than $400 Million

FieldAI has raised more than $400 million from investors including Bezos Expeditions, Khosla Ventures, Temasek and NVentures, Nvidia’s venture capital arm, according to the supplied information.

Caterpillar reported sales and revenues of $67.6 billion for 2025.

No financial terms for the collaboration were disclosed in the supplied information, and the companies did not provide revenue expectations or a timetable for broader deployment of the technologies.
