Pinterest Introduces Visual Search Ads and Expands AI-Powered Advertising Tools

By Fiona Craig | September 17, 2026, 6:33 AM

Pinterest (NYSE:PINS) has launched Visual Search Ads, a new advertising product that allows brands to place promotions within visual search results and enlarged Pin views, as the company expands its tools for performance advertisers.

The product was announced at Pinterest Presents, the company’s annual advertiser summit. It allows advertisers to bid for prominent placements and direct users to their websites while they are conducting visual searches.

According to Pinterest’s internal data for the second quarter of 2026, users perform more than 80 billion searches on the platform each month. The company said most searches are visual, while more than half have a commercial purpose.

Bill Ready, Pinterest’s chief executive, said the product reflects changes in how consumers search for products and ideas.

“Traditional search advertising has long relied on keywords, but in an AI-driven world, people are expressing themselves in much richer ways,” Ready said.

“Visual Search Ads allow marketers to tap into this new and rapidly growing form of AI-powered search with a prominent placement at the critical decision points where people see, save and decide.”

Visual Search Ads to Enter Beta Across Advertising Markets

Visual Search Ads are compatible with Pinterest Performance+, the company’s existing AI-powered advertising suite.

The new product is scheduled to enter beta testing for eligible advertisers across all Pinterest advertising markets in the coming weeks.

Pinterest also introduced Performance+ Priority Products, which gives advertisers greater control over which products receive emphasis in their campaigns.

A separate self-service A/B testing feature will allow advertisers to compare different approaches to creative content, targeting and campaign optimisation.

The additions are intended to give advertisers more options for managing campaigns and measuring performance through Pinterest’s advertising platform.

Pinterest Expands App Advertising and Consumer Features

Pinterest also announced App Promotion, a new advertising objective focused on generating app installations. The feature is currently in global beta testing.

The company cited internal results from an early test involving a US advertiser, which showed an improvement of up to 85% in cost per installation compared with previous solutions. The figure relates to that individual test rather than a platform-wide result.

On the consumer side, Pinterest introduced Restyle, a beta feature launching in the United States and Canada that allows users to upload photographs and visualise potential changes to a space.

The company also announced a second season of its connected television series, Bring My Pinterest to Life.

Pinterest reported 640 million monthly active users worldwide at the time of the announcement.
